Got programming, but car still idles high?
I just put a hotcam in my 97 lt1. I got the computer programed to idle at 850, but it idles at 1100. It idled this high before the cam also. I really need help because I want it to lope, but it doesn't lope good at 1100. Thanks for your help.
you shoyld have a plastic cover on the drivers side. It coers the linkage, remove it. I think you have to remove the tb to make the adjustment. you should see the set screw it is nidden by the gasket. that is what I can remember when I removed mine to clean it.
You really should not need to be messing with the idle screw unless it has been messed with before. It would be wise to put a scanner on it and see what the PCM is commanding for idle and what the IAC counts are.
I also believe that if you change the idle screw the PCM will compensate for it. I really dont know, You may want to take out your IAC valve on the bottom of the TB and clean it all up, You may have a slight vacumm leak somewhere near the TB that is making it idle a little high. It would be good to do some logging on it to see what the sensors are reading if you can. Otherwise just try cleaning the IAC valve and see where that takes you.
I spent an hour cleaning the IAC and TB yesterday now when I start the car it revs up to 2,000rpm then takes a few seconds to settle back down to 1,200rpms. I think the IAC is messed up and the replacement cost is $49.00 from Autozone for a Wells IAC, the AC Delco unit is about $52.00 from GM Part Direct.
Anyone know how to diagnose if teh IAC is functioning properly?
I think I may have bumped the pintle and threw it off calibration.
