Sounds like it. Why the 388 instead of a 383 or 396? Just curious.

Re: got my heads form loyd today heres the flow #s

well the 388 is five exta cubes and the only difference is the 3.8 stroake vs the 3.75 stroke. and the longer stroke will create a little more torqe. the parts are alot more for a 396 as well. acctually this engine is built with over kill parts as far as my needs go. but i would rather buy higher quality parts, instead of trying to get by with the bare minium i would need. and who knows i may change my mind and spray 200 shot, and with the parts im using i wouldnt be scared at all. but honsetly im a NA person at heart. but i have been known to change my mind.

6800 in a 388? Making power to 6800rpm or just shifting there (beyond peak hp)?

Must be a stout cam.

Re: got my heads form loyd today heres the flow #s

what are your flow #s. just curious.

loyd said mine are about 5 cfm higher than usual acrros the board. but it really counts from .200 to .400. the better the mid lift #s the better the heads.

edit

i forgot to say that i used 2.05 valve with new seats.and thats why the mid lift #s are so good

Sounds good, but let me say this... if you're going to shift at 7k anyway, why not just use a cam that will peak at that rpm?

If you make peak at 6600-6700 then you're giving up power. Spin it 300-400rpm higher and you may see 15-20 more hp. So you shift AT peak hp, but you're still carrying more torque and hp at the shift point.

when this motor is done i wont mind spinning it to 7000 at all. but we will see what joe does with the cam. what im going to do is let him know what i want and let him do the rest. and if it peaks at 6700 thats fine. ill let him do his thing since he knows what hes doing. but i will be sure to tell i would like to dhift a 7000,

but i thought you suppose to shift about 300 to 400 passed peak and the stock pcm is only good to 7000.

I shift where my motor tells me too (according to ET/mph). Tell your goals to Lloyd/Joe and let them advise you. That's why ya pay them the big bucks .

Right. Best shift points require a little numbers crunching and a good deal of track time.
