got my car scanned
i got my car scanned last weekend and he came back saying that my maf is bad? i dont understand all the wires are intact. do these things just burn out out of the blue. and the computer was confused from the msd 6al i have on there. he said it couldnt quite keep up. any thoughts about the maf would be appreciated. and what kind of maf should i go with if i need to replace it?
Thanks Jason
Thanks Jason
Yes, the MAF can "fail" out of the blue. It can also be a problem with a bent pin in the harness connector, or some cars will damage the pink wire to the harness that supplies +12V from the fuse panel. For starters, take the MAF connector off, turn the key on and see if you have +12V on the pink wire.
Not sure what he is talking about as far as the computer being confused, the MSD "couldnt quite keep up.", and problems with your tach wire. I seriously doubt that the PCM can even tell the MSD is there. Did he possibly get DTC 99, tach output circuit? I've never seen an MSD cause this kind of problems.

Get the exact code(s).
Taking the screen out, assuming you didn't damage the sensor elements while you were remiving it, will simply screw up the calibration a little, but not enough to throw a code. It is possible a chunk of something made it past your air filter?
