got my 355 running....need some small help!!
well, i fixed most of the problems, so i will redo the post with updated info. everything is fixed now, except for the knocking/clicking/tapping. it's really either of the three. it is coming from the drivers side and it sounds like valvetrain from experiences i've had before. i readjusted the lash with the car not running. did everything as usual. take out the play, then 1/8-1/4 turn (comp r's). did that twice. it's getting better than it was. i'm gonig to try and let it go for a while of engine running and see if it gets any better. i'd hate to say i have a stuck lifter or anything, but maybe i do? it does not sound like anything internal. not a rodknock sound or anything. i guess the best wya to describe it would be to say it's "clacking". any help gets me farther than i am today
also, the car does not start like a typical EFI car does. it turns over more than usual before it cranks. it does not run the best when it starts. it gets better, but it's as if something in the tune is off. my tune was given to me by bret bauer for the cam so it should be fine, and my TPS should be fine as the idle does not wonder up and down in rpms. ???

I would be concerned that the smoke is white but the fumes are burning your eyes. It sounds to me like you have oil contaminated with fuel. Have you smelled the dipstick for fuel?
Check your vac line going to the fuel pressure regulator to see if it's wet. If not draw a vacuum on it manually to see if it holds. If it does not, the diaphragm could have a hole in it and this could be why your contaminating the crank case and have low fuel pressure.
The oil pressure sending unit should vary between 10 and 90 ohms. With the engine idling, disconnect it and measure from the terminal of the sending unit to ground about 10 to 12 ohms. If it's good, check the ground above the starter. Also check connector c210 for a bad connection on the black/white wire. c210 is the black 4pin connector behind the passenger kick panel. Oh yeah, the sending unit relies on grounding to the block so be careful what you use to seal it with and how much you use.
Again, if the crankcase were contaminated with fuel it would account for the knocking sound when the engine is warm. If that ultimately ends up being your problem, don't allow the cylinder walls to be washed down as cylinder and ring damage will result.

Re: got my 355 running....need some small help!!
there is no gas in the oil. my old adjutsible pressure regulator had a hole in the diaphram, pumping gas right through the vaccum, into the intake and into the cylinder, flooding it. i drained ever ounce of that oil and put in new, switching backing to the stock nonadjustible regulator as well. no more fuel through the vaccum, still low fuel pressure.
the oil pressure sending unit is new from autozone. a friend put that in, but i believe it had some sealer on it. I'll check it today.
as for the clicking, I'm going to adjust the valve again and see. again, there is no fuel in the oil.

is it normal to have smoke after a rebuild? I did mine and noticed a little bit of black smoke especially on the first start up.. not so much as of now but the car has only been started a handful of times and never left the garage.
Re: got my 355 running....need some small help!!
Instead of TTT(which is frowned upon), why don't you tell us what you fixed and what is still the problem. We assume the fuel pressure problem and the smoking/ smell problem is fixed.
In the first post you mentioned a knocking sound. In your second post you mentioned a clicking sound. Which is it? Did you fix that too?
Your second post mentions the FPR leaking through the diaphragm contaminating the cylinder but did you repair that problem before or after the first post?
Have you checked the resistance of the OP sending unit?

ttt is frowned upon if it's abused. once a day is all i use it if its an important post to me. anyways, i updated the opening post to my single problem.

With no problems a new motor will smoke a little until the rings are fully seated, but after that it should be pretty clean.
How bad is the ticking/clacking noise? can you hear it without straining from the drivers seat?, does it dissapear with light throttle?
