got an inspection today......

went over to the firestone down the block from me for an inspection today. nox was 2.3. the limit is 2. so the guy starts talking about giving it a fuel system clean and how it will probly pass if i got it ect... so i said ok cause i wanted to get that done anyways. so he didnt call and they were about to close so i went down to see what happened. apparently, he did the cleaning and instead of it bieng 2.3 again, it was 3.46. so im pissed off cause i spent an extra $86, and it still failed. he also told me that he let the car idle for an hour with the fuel stuff on it. so he tells me to bring it in tomorrow morning and well try ruinning it cold. so i agreed, took my keys and left. i get in the car and its hot as hell in there, and i have no more gas in it. i go over to the gas station to get some gas and i hear some noise. i pop the hood and sure enough my anti-freeze was boiling. so he let it idle for an hour and overheat. can i hold them resoponsable for any damage that might have occoured from it overheating? im still letting it cool off so i cant check it out yet. im very pissed right now. also what would cause my nox to be failing? will egr send off a ses code if its not functioning right? thanks -dave

On a side note.. what kind of 'mechainc' thinks 'running it cold' will reduce emissions?

No he is not liable b/c nothing happend to your car while he was in posession of your car. If all of this happened before you got there that would be one thing.....so sorry about that. But the fact that he told you to run it cold in the first place says never go back to him!!!

A cold engine would read high in HC's. An engine too hot or failing EGR will read high NOX. Definitely take it to a different licensed smog station.
