Got dynoed, bad impression, need evaluation.

Well I and a friend brought out cars to the local dyno to satisfy our cuiosity. The guys that run the shop seemed to know what they were doing and the dyno was a "dynomite" I think I remember it saying on the metal that the rollers were mounted on. I have the following HP mods:
BBK shorty headers, deleted cat, Flowmaster muffler, cutout, TB bypass and Moroso CAI and PCMForLess programming. I also have new Taylor wires and ACDelco Plugs. I wasn't expecting any huge numbers but just wanted to get a run in before the spray and cam ect. I also had the A/F ratios checked and the guy said they looked good but I was running really lean up top. Can Bryan at PCMForLess do something about this? Here are the graphs:
first run
Second run
Third run

If I remember correctly, the 2nd and 3rd runs where with the cut-out uncapped and the hood popped with a big fan blowing on a bag of ice on top of my intake.

If I'm correct, most number similar to my mods are around 240-260rwhp. right? They guy said something about whatever they use to measure it being solid verses what alot of shops using being rubber which stretches? I'm not sure what he was talking about because this was my first time at the dyno. My buddie with a 95 TA with similar mods minus the headers and cut-out only put down 160rwhp! What the crap? My car runs fine for the mods I have in my opinion and the fact that my buddies car has similar mods yet low numbers also confuses me. I know track times are what really counts but what gives?

Thanks. Come on, tell me how you really feel. I'm sure part if not all of it was my fault. The guy told me to hold it steady at 1800 RPM's and then he would start recording but I couldn't keep it their long because it would keep shifting.

take your car for a ride
if it pulls hard, falls on its face and then pulls hard again its your car

if it feels smooth its the dyno (my bet)

Thumbs up

For most people, dyno runs are very depressing....that's just life....but as for your buddies Trans Am that only graphed 160 hp....he should definately look into a tuneup....or does it have extremely high mileage?

160hp out of a 4th-Gen LT1 doesn't sound right @ all........

For once I agree with Trey

Those are some f'ed up graphs though, all three of them are quite different from each other and they're all waaaay low unless you're on 6 cylinders or something.

I suggest you find a shop with a real dyno (Dynojet) instead of this Mickey Mouse "DYNOmite" one.

Something definetly isn't right! 160rwhp? I thought these cars were more like 225 stock. How long has this dyno shop been in business and the guy running it, how long has he been doing the testing? I'd definetly go elsewhere from now on!

actually on a dynojet you should see 230-250rwhp STOCK.. most being 230-245.

Not even the more accurate and true Mustang dynos or any of the other load bearing ones dont show that low.

what a joke that dyno shop is

I'd be finding another dyno if I were you. Don't go off of those numbers at all. I'd use my butt-o-meter over that thing if I were wanting some accurate numbers. I'm with the other guys, those are some crazy looking dyno graphs.

Maybe they were dynoed in the wrong gear? I'm not sure which one is 1:1, but I'm sure the guys on here could tell you.

My 96 did 266 HP and 300 TQ with a SLP 2OTL and Moroso Catback. There were around 5 LT1's that day. All modified and the lowest was in the 260 range.

I doubt that makes him feel any better (also it's a little strange to have 2 catbacks). I'm pretty sure he knows what his car should dyno. Back to Mystic: The dynograph looks screwy, kinda like something someone could just make up. Do you have any idea what your car, or your freinds car runs in the 1/4? Does your car feel strong? How does it fair against other cars? It sounds like you just left it in drive and punched it, wouldn't that make it go into first? Anyone else see where I am going here? Isn't it usuaully dynoed in 3rd?
