Got 100,000 miles, what to do maintance on suspension, what should I look at/for?
Howdy...
I got a little over 100,000 miles now and I want to look at my front suspension and steering components and see what might be worn out. I am going to put new shocks on it, but what else should I examine? What usually wears out?
Also what should I examine in the rear?
I also plan on getting an alignment. I want to make sure everything is sturdy under there before I take it up to them. My brother went to get his alignment done and halfway through they told him his idler arm and pittman arm were both bad and he had to pay anyway without getting his work done
... I don't want this to happen to me... btw: he has a truck and he got the rip job by the mechanic
.
Thanks
Joe

The lower ball joints are probably trashed. They're a pain. Take the lower A arm to a shop and have them press new ones in. You might as well replace all the bushings while your there. I like my Eurothane bushings. Be careful what kit you get if you do get Eurothane. The one I got had to reuse the old metal sleeves with the new bushings and it took hours to get the old bushings out of the sleeves and cleaned to reuse them. I think my kit was from Energy Suspension but not 100% sure.
To do the shocks you will need a set of spring compressors.

I have 155,000 on mine and am in the process of replacing ALL the bushings front and rear. They are worn out.
I purchased a Energy Suspension Kit #ENS-3-18130G (Red Bushings) from Summit for $142.69 with free shipping.
Replace yours soon.
