It is a great cam. I had it with LPE heads/intake/LT's/ORY/3.73 gears and was able to get a 12.09 @ 115.5. Averaged around 12.15 to 12.2 @ 114.5 to 115 through the traps on a sea level track. While it had Edelbrock 1 5/8" shorties attatched to the stock exhuast including stock cats it turned 12.6 @ 110.5mph at a 600ft. ele. track. Car would get 27mpg on the highway and high teens to low 20's in the city. Drove just like stock. It used to be dubbed an "RV cam" back in the day because of its low end grunt. I think my power peaked right around 5900rpm. Shift points were at 6200rpm. IMO you won't find a better performing cam for what it is. As far as lopey goes, if you run it with cats then it'll sound stock. No one will be able to tell except you and someone who knows what to listen for. W/out cats it'll have a bit more of a lope to it, but nothing to write home about.

It should put you in the 12's. You say you want to get up and go like a rocket, you would be needing suspension then also to plant that power. It wouldn't hurt your daily driving either, however more gear would hit your mpg but be very helpful.

You can check my videos for the Crane 104227 idle and performance. Vids are in my sig and also on my fQuick garage. If you want lope the hot cam is a good choice. The Crane 104227 has a very, very mild lope. I have not been on the dyno with the Ai heads and SLP shortys, but it sould be in the 350 rwhp range.

List

cc306 (to big i think)
Hot cam
Lingenfelter 211/219
crane 227
cc503
cc305
cc224/230
cc501

The Crane 227 is 210/224, not 214/224 (with 1.6 RRs). A real stump puller and easy tune. JMHO

The 211/219 lpe cam has been a really good cam in everything I have put it in. Its easy to tune and easy as stock to drive. Every car I have installed it in and tuned has been an absolute rocket for what it is.

With the big stall the op is planning on though if you want to hear it just a little without all the headaches of a larger cam, I would go with the cc502 (218/224) i'd probably have it ground on a 110lsa. Works real well in a stockish lt1. It will give up some down low to the lpe and the small crane but you wont miss it with the slip of the larger stall and your gearing imo.

Btw if you have an impala engine and iron heads, be aware that there are issues with the press in rocker studs and aftermarket valvetrains. Swapping over to a set of aluminum heads is a cheap and worthwhile upgrade over rebuilding the iron stuff imo.

CC306 is too high end for what you want.

the CC304, crane 227, LPE 211 are all great choices for low end torque and for cars that see a lot of street time. You wont have to spin the motor to 6,000+ rpms to be able to get the power out of them.

The CC305 is a great stock replacement cam with a bit more HP/TQ than the common Hotcam. I have one coming out of my T/A (this week) with about 7-8K on the clock. PM me if you are interested.

BTW - I had this in my 383 as it's a great emissions cam, just finally decided to say to hell with emissions and go with a custom grind from Lloyd Elliott.

Do yourself a solid and consider the Crane 227. I'd rather have a sleeper then sound like I was bad only to have my A$$ handed to me between lights.

I would rather avoid the embarrassment of getting shut down by a ricer just so I could brag about how loud my mufflers are. Louder does not = faster. JMHO

If you are wanting a bunch of torque, especially for that heavy Impalla. Why not build a 383 and go a little bigger on the cams. And I would switch to the stock aluminum heads too. They are fairly cheap and worth it for many reasons.
