Good friend dies this weekend in street race!

This weekend there was a big F body gathering in Atlanta GA. A few of my friends went down there to have a good time and little did they know how it would end. 2 people were killed in the accident and 2 more are in critical condition. My friend that died left behind a wife, a 4 year old son, and another child on the way. Is street racing really worth it?

Heres a link about the story. Although you guys dont know them, please keep them in your prayers.

That sucks dude. As much fun as it is, there is still a very serious risk involved once the pedal is to the metal on the street. More should take note of this. Better to stick with drag strips, not the safest thing, but atleast they're no turns.

Unhappy

I am sorry about your loss, that is very sad to hear. My friends all think it is totally cool to do, but I think it is dumb as crap, not only that it is dangerous, but that those tickets are expensive, and your license can be revoked. Our drag strip is only a few miles from our local cruise spot, yet no one I know really races there . Keep it safe guys

I know people go out into the world thinking nothing like this can happen to them. I to am guilty of this. I street race and never think once something bad can happen to me.

The bad thing is my buddy wasnt driving. He was a backseat passenger. If the driver lives he will get charged with man slaughter on 2 accounts.

People please think twice before you do something like this or just jump in a car with an unexperienced driver. I know this couldve happened to anyone, but it didnt. It was my friend and maybe it was just his time to go. Please be safe.

That is a sad story. It can also serve as a wake up call to those that drag race without thinking of the risks involved to yourself and others.

Some of the other members from our own South Carolina Camaro board were there on the site. They were the first ones on the scene. They said it killed him instantly. I was kinda hoping it was a really bad joke when I first read it. Then I looked in my AIM buddy list and seen his name online. I clicked it hoping he would answer. Instead it was his father and told me everything was true. This ruined my day today!

Thats a sad and sobering story. I can't even imagine what that must be like for the family and friends.

Racing with two people in the backseat

I'll pray for everyone involved

We have all probably street raced one time or another, (myself included!), but this should be a wake up call. Its too bad people have to die for anyone to take notice. RIP TO THE DECEASED

Man, I am sorry to hear this. I have gone to that Atlanta, GA F-body gathering, and it was a lot of fun (did not go this year). It is terrible to have this kind of a shadow on it, all for some street thrills.

I would like to add how it is especially irresponsible to race when you have other people in your car. It's one thing to put your own life on the line, but if you have people in your car, they aren't even getting the choice in the matter... If the driver lives, I agree he should be found guilty of manslaughter. I never go fast, let alone race, when ANYONE else is in the car... and the only time I've been guilty of a "street race" was on an abandoned straight roadway. Granted, still not safe, but the only person I would likely kill would be myself. We don't have the right to inflict ourselves on others.

Sorry to hear about it. My condolences to the families of the deceased. I'm sure they all died too young.

-Michael

Thanks guys for all your support. His family is the ones that really need it right now, not to mention is wife and kids he left behind. I still dont want to believe that its true. Its just so crazy that I talked to him the night before they went down to Atlanta then I hear that hes dead this morning. Some people take life for granted and we really shouldnt. None of us are promised another day. Just make sure that when its your time to go that you are ready to meet your maker.
