Good discussion on removing bumper supports..

Ive read alot of the past threads on removing the bumper supports and I wanted to see if we could have an indepth(if possible) discussion based on experience mostly on the safety of this action.

My experience....I was rearended once by an F150 going about 20mph and the rear bumper along with the supports that were destroyed. The rear quarter panels were bowed at the wheel wells and the whole rear of the car had to be pulled out of itself.

Now based on my experience the supports did nothing asfar as taking the shock of hit. The quarter panels hte lip of the back hatch and the spoiler took the brunt of the damage. The support just crumbled to pieces.

The removal of the front and back is worth ~54lbs...the front being 23 and the rear 31.

What are everyones thoughts/experiences with this topic?

Well first and foremost they distribute load and impact through out the whole chassis/unibody/frame.

Secondly, I am confident your vehicle would be in some SERIOUS risks due to exposure of the fuel tank in a rear end colission. Especially if your gas tank is less than 3/4, you are in serious trouble.

I could go on forever, bumpers are a REALLY good idea

Front ones distrbiute load as well. For one thing there will be nothing but a radiator between the pole/tree and the engine block which will inevitably break off its mounts and end up on your lap.

Ok well it would probobly wouln't end up on your lab but you get the picture. Nothing is absorbing impact on a head on collision. jsut you and the radiator
