Is this a good deal?
I was talking to a few ppl about just getting a shortblock instead of rebuilding the stock 350, its going to be about the same price anyways... here is what I'm being offered.
Scat Series 9000 3.750" Crankshaft
Scat 4340 Forged I Beam 6.000" Connecting Rods
JE 4.030" Pistons and Rings
Clevite 77 Bearings
ARP Wav Loc Rod Bolts and Main Studs
Milodon Billet Main Caps
ATI Balancer
This comes fully balanced and assembled on fresh LT1 block, no need for a core he said, all fully balanced to my flywheel, new freeze plugs, etc. etc. everything I need pretty much.
$2515.99 for this combo he said, I called up Scat about the crank and rods, they said no problem up to about 600hp and around 6750rpm, I am no where going to be near that, even with the spray. Do you think this is a good deal for a 383?
He said if I was going with higher power, he could get me a billet ultralightweight crank from SCAT and Oliver rods for $5115.99 fully assembled/balanced, I was told that was good for well over 1800hp LOL, but I ain't gonna be even near half of that.
Comments? Thanks.

IMO that is a decent deal if all the machine work/balancing/assembly is done and its ready to go.
BTW give people some time to get to the thread, you'll get your answers/opinions but the thread just hasnt been up long.

I thought the stuff was rated for 700HP and 7k RPM, at least one or two people here have broken the cranks, although not common.
With people putting out around 500 HP on a good set of heads/cam stock bottom cars, along with nitrous are you sure your not going to be anywhere near that? Going with a small cam?
$2500 sounds like a pretty good deal, many can easily spend 4k or so on a rebuild.

Excuse me... those would be H beam rods:P
Hotcam and a head cleanup, just a basic rebuild at the moment, I'm running low on funding and don't have the extra $1500 for some good head porting, besides, I'd rather spend another $1000 and get a set of AFR heads and 224/230 cam if I wanted to all out.
I assume about 340-350rwhp with the valve job, 383 and hotcam, then with a 125-150 shot of juice, maybe around 450rwhp.
I need to rebuild the rear end too, and the manual trans swap... but... SOB, I just found out today my tax return is like $2000 less than I expected. Totally forgot that mileage reimbursment is a deduction, not an actual reimbursment.

Everything is forged except the crank, I'm gonna work around and see if I can get a forge crank and better rods for about $750 more or so. I'll let you know, maybe I could get a discount if he can make a bunch of these and sell them as a "crate" shortblock:P
Alright, will go with a forged Callies Drag Slayer Crank, and Oliver Forged I beam rods for around $3500-3600, might be the way to go, would have no problems up to 7000rpm and hold around 750hp.
