Going to Replace the Starter
Going to Replace the Starter
It looks like I am going to end up replacing the starter on my car.
I did a search and it looks like I need to remove the transmission dust shield. I was wondernig if anyone has pictures or a tutorial on how to replace the starter? I was hoping shoebox would have a tutorial but no luck.
I am not very good at working on cars but I would love to be able to do this myself on the weekend instead of taking it to a shop. How many hours of work do you think it might be?
I forgot to mention on my other thread that I do have remote start, but even if the remote start didnt work, I should still be able to start with the key.

Re: Going to Replace the Starter
dude, once the car is up on jackstands or even ramps, you could replace it in like 15 minutes tops. two bolts. super easy. just remember what wires are connected to what terminal. i never removed any dust shield.

Re: Going to Replace the Starter
You'll probably need to remove the dust shield to make it easier... You might have to turn the starter in the opposite direction with the nose pointing up towards the engine and pull it down backwards... On my car it was a tight squeeze and I had to do it that way... I also had to unbolt the trans cooler line bracket near the motor mount so there was enough flex in the line to get it past it.

Go for it man, no big deal at all. Use good jackstands to securely keep her off the ground while you work (if you don't have a lift etc.)
If you get stuck, drop back by here.
