Going over the redline
My friend was doing a burn out with his 96 t/a and was riding at about 6300-6400 during the burn out. He acts like that isn't hurting the engine but isn't it? What kind of damage can that do anyway?

Bad...
If it's stock I wouldn't take it over 6, except maybe every once in a while.
He might not even have anthing happen, for a while, its gonna be more of a sudden problem than anything else- but when it happens, he gets to dig into the engine...
BTW, I've had my A4 at or just over 6k a couple times, but not very often 63-64 is really pushing that valvetrain. If he wants to do that, advise him to get new springs so you don't start getting any "float"...

If its a stock PCM he should be hitting the rev limiter when the tach reads about 6k.
Its not gunna blow the car up the first time it happens, but its not wise to do it regularly, your not making any more power reving it much past 5500 so its really kinda pointless.

Premature valve spring failure, lifter failure, bent pushrods, the list goes on. There are countless things to break for no good reason. The car will probably not make much power at all over 5700 or so, so he is just pushing his engine toward it's eventual problem, whichever one happens first.
