going to install cc306....

going to install cc306 soon, but collecting other parts right now, already have chromoly pushrods(stock length), comp replacement lifters, what 1.6rr and valvespring setup would be the best bang for buck for this setup? also, what else if anything am i going to need to replace?? thanks

Re: going to install cc306....

I would get rid of the Comp replacement lifters and get some Comp R's. The CC306 has lots of lift so it needs good springs, it also likes to rev. I think the comp replacement lifters will kill off your power up high. Also what kind of timing chain are you gonna run? Thats something you can't skimp on.

1.6 NSA rockers with GM guideplates.

Check out the beehive 918 or 915 springs. They'd be a great choice since they're good to ~.625" (so it would be plenty)

If you want an electric waterpump, check out the Cloyes double-roller or cmotorsports equivalent. If you want to retain the stock waterpump, check out an LT4 HD chain; though you'll pay for it.

I'm guessing you're using stock heads, since you never stated otherwise. lol at least i don't think... but the 306 duration is pretty radical for stock heads. can be done, but u might see more gain from a cc305, hotcam, or any other cam like so. cc305 is a good choice....on 1.6rr's, it's .540 lift or so int. and exh.

since someone else brought it up, the 224/230 .112 or even the 227/233 .111 would be a good option. I'd prefer the 227/233 myself.

Re: going to install cc306....

new timing sprocket and it may be smart to get some 7/16" rocker studs for added assurance.

Are you getting a better than stock chain? Don't run a stock timing chain, thats just a time bomb waiting to happen. As for the lifters i would get rid of them in my opinion. I've heard that OEM's allow for more valve float and can cost you some power up high.

Re: going to install cc306....

save a couple bucks and get the ex-187. same thing.

if you have a choice, go with non self-aligning rockers with GM guideplates. that with 7/16" studs will help to protect against valve float. if you have a good price on a set of self-aligning rockers, go ahead and get them. they'll work just fine as well.
