i guess my motor is an exception then??

did it too mine and i have NO intake leaks and have yet too spin a bearing in over 8,000 miles now
No I'm not kidding. If you do a search you can find all kinds of posts of people who have spun bearings after doing heads and/or cam swaps.
I can see where it would be okay to dimple the block debris wise, but there are those who go crazy and take a dremel to the block surface with flying metal particles going everywhere.
The point I am trying to make is it's completely unessecary to alter the surface at all. The secret is a clean surface, consistent beed, place manifold straight down, torque bolts in sequence, retorque bolts after a few heat cycles and you will have no leaking problems.

yeah, i am aware of alot of those threads and mishaps...and i am sure there is a few dozen reasons as too why those motors did what they did after the install

but thats also why i said score the block or dimple it, not gouge the hell out of or chop it up with a mechanical tool
meaning a razor blade or a scratch awl/punch (you dont have too do this either tho) i thought it was a good idea when i did mine especially when small intake leaks can be a major PITA and its working good so far

cleanliness is probably thee most important part of doing this task!!

Just a warning most lt1s that have got mileage on them and have had heads done even going by the book still spin bearings. If you want to chance it go for it buy a manual and good for it.I'm just trying to warn you of what might happen.

Well it has really never been explained by those who have spun them and the overwhealming impression is if you do a heads/cam swap you may spin a bearing... and you might get struck by lightening or get attacked by a shark or fall off a curb and obtain a compound fracture.
The way spun bearings happen is if foreign particles of any kind gets into the engine whilst being open to the elements those particles can reach the bearings and do damage. The simplest way to avoid any kind of problems like this is to cover the oil valley and/or the front of the oil pan (WITH CLEAN SHOP RAGS!!!) when it is exposed. After the engine is buttoned up it is a good idea to change the oil AND filter.
