How do the xe224/230 on a 114 lsa and the cc305 act differently? Those are what i'm trying to decide between. Which one would be lopier and which do you think can provide more power?

I agree with the entire LT4 set-up. Got it in my 1995 and it is totally streetable with enough lopp to get noticed. I could have gone bigger but I like the streetablitity of the car now. With Stage 2 heads and a cam I get almost 400 rwhp.

Unless you have emissions to deal with I would not put the 224/230 on a 114 LS when you start changing LSs on a cam you not only change overlap but the moment of opening and closing during the cycle are completely shifted. I would go the 224/230 or the 218/224 as ground with 1.6 rockers, you will not be dissapointed.

Do you have the heads already? Or are you still getting them? Also if you already have them have you got the car dyno'ed because that seems like a lot for a hotcam?

You don't have to buy the entire kit to get the hotcam. You can buy the cam by itself. Its really cheap that way. The hotcam should be a little more lopey at idle than the 305 since the hotcam has the 112 lsa and the 305 has the 114.

If you're willing to install new springs and lifters then there's no reason not to get an XE grind. So then the question is "which one?" If you want the most topend without doing heads I'd recommend the 224. With heads, it's the 230/236

Well i do have emissions to worry about. I heard that the cc305 will pass on a 112 lsa but not the xe 224/230. So which do you think would provide more power, and would sound better.

I believe that statement to be false, the overlap on the 224/230 would be less even though it has more duration.

I have a 224/230 and wouldn't go any smaller than that. I kinda wish I would have gone bigger, but it probably wouldn't help me much with stock heads. I was expecting it to lope, lose some low end, idle bad etc... It does none of that. This cam is very, very tame with a mail-order tune from madwolf. I saw people post about cam surge and drivablitly issues with bigger cams, but this thing is 100% as driveable as the stock cam. Most people probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference between the stock cam and this one untill they got on it. It feels much stronger up top, especially in the mid range(4-5.5k). I also don't feel any loss of low end, just a lot stronger top end.

I also live in Ca. and am running a 228/236 on a 112 LSA with 1.5 rockers It has a pretty good lope and I don't anticipate any problems smogging, Though I am running a blower which helps with smog.

to make the power you need on a cc306 you need to rev to 6500 rpms, which is kinda high for a high mile stock bottom end (in my opinion at least). That is why I chose the xe 230/236 112, it makes good tq by 2krpm, and by 3k you are in your seat good (max tq around 2500? w/ stock heads) and makes max rwhp @ 6200rpm max.

at least at 6200 w/ a fully upgraded valvetrain you should be fine.
cc306 guys, is 6500 high to rev it or is it fine?
