To go longtubes, or Not???

Currently i have slp headers and their y pipe on my 93z, would it be worth it by changing to pacesetter longtubes with their y pipe, my best et is a 13.61 @101 and i think it should be running a little better than that, so what would be the expected hp increase by switching to longtubes?

There will be some gain involved in going from shorties to long tubes, but it depends on you if it is worth the extra labor and cost involved. Also, your state's emissions regulations will have a big part in whether you go the long tube route.

You wont gain much if anything on a stock motor over the SLPs. When you start getting into heads/cams/etc is when the longtubes will make a big difference. In stock form, the motor just doesnt move enough air.

I wondered the same thing if the longtubes would make a difference on my heads/cam car over the SLP's I currently have.

More than likely you'll get a little more power with them.

If the SLP Y-pipe has a catyletic converter and is changed over to an off-road pipe then there may be significant gains made.
What I would do in that situation is just flange a straight pipe and the cat. That way you can have pretty much the best of both worlds by using the cat for emissions only. It'd save a bundle of money.
With the right bolt-on's with DR's on a well prepped, near sea level track you could possibly get into the high 12's at around 106mph IMO.

Re: To go longtubes, or Not???

the cat is gone with a piece of pipe in the place with a qtec installed, my current mods are a k&n fipk, the headers, magnaflow catback, qtec, madz28 chip, 2800 midwest stall, 3.73's, bfg drag radials, and soom taylors ovtcs wires, so wouldnt u think that setup would be good for some high 12's? cuz im bout .7 tenths off

What's your track elevation? What kind of weather conditions?

Re: To go longtubes, or Not???

i'd stick with what you got. i have long tubes and i'm thinking of selling them and getting some mids. not being able to lower you car isn't very pleasing, and i scrape the collectors enough with my car not being lowered (lots of hills/potholes in my town)

imo save yourself the pita

I am running the hot cam and I went from the SLP shortys, stock Cats and changed to Pacesetters LT and an X-pipe setup and went from 303 to 323 at the wheels.

Quite honestly, I'd rather have the extra power that full-lengths provide than the "cool" look of a lowered car, but to each his own. . We all have our priorities.

i agree. the only reason im going to get rid of my slp's and r/t y pipe is because im going to a faily aggressive h/c package. i know of a stock motored n/a car that went 108 with the 96-97 (the crappy ones) slp headers. i know of a car with headers with 93-95 style slp's that dyno'd over 400rwhp with a daily driveable h/c package.

Re: To go longtubes, or Not???

i only gained a tenth going from shorty edlebrock to flp long tubes.
that was with all the bolt ons and the hot cam...
the gain could of just been from going from 1 5/8 to 1 3/4
