-The GMMG Chambered Exhaust-
Any comments on sound difference with LT's vs. Mids? Any comparisons of any sort are welcome.
Yes FLP's are nice but I dont have the wealth to blow $1200 on headers alone.
Also the price of my catback was $500 used with <6,000 miles on it. It seemed pretty affordable to me. Much better IMO than a Borla, Corsa or B&B.

I have it on my LS1 and am debating whether or not to put it on the LT1 I'm going to be replacing my Grand Prix with during the summer. Just not sure if it is worth spending all that $$$ again since almost every exhaust sounds bada$$ on the LT1 motor IMO...
BTW, I'm going to get to hear b-stevens car w/ the GMMG & headers in person this upcoming weekend as long as the weather cooperates.
I'll have to let you guys know what I think...
Nice review,

It had a nice rumble at idle (but not too loud), sounded good at cruise (but no drone), and was vicious at WOT. There was some rasp in the mid rpms because the car had no cat, but it didn't sound that bad, just kind of like a violent flapping noise or something. Sounded much better than any Borla, Loudmouth, or cutout I've heard without one too. Overall, it maintained a good deep note all the way to redline and would sound absolutely perfect with a good highflow cat in there.Nice car Bob and I look forward to hearing it with the cat to see the difference in sound,
Mike

Order what mufflers you need, print out a pic of the system from GMMG's web site, and then have it built locally. I was gonna do that myself before I got a killer deal on a 4" Mufflex cat back.
They don't use the sweet thunder mufflers........and if they do they are different then the ones for sale. We've measured the GMMG chambers vs. several people locally with the sweet thunder muffs (of various sizes) and none of them were the same as the GMMG. Plus the GMMG chambers had a different look to them than the sweet thunder ones. The GMMG chambers also have a distinctively different sound then the sweet thunders. All the ones I have heard on LT1's, LS1's trucks, etc did rasp a bit up top and did pick up a little drone, both of which the GMMG chambers do not do, unless catless (all vehicles had cats). Plus the exhaust didn't look as sharp as the GMMG in terms of cleanliness and what not.

It seems that the chambered mufflers from Summit are cheaper anyway.
Something interesting I just found at another site. One man's recipe for a homemade GMMG.

I bet b-stevens setup is pretty sweet sounding, I'll prolly end up getting the Coated Macs. Everyone definately wants to hear an evaluation on the difference with and without the cat, if you do that Bob. Always nice thing about the Macs you can just swap the cat out if you feel like annoying the neighbors or just scaring away the pony's
.
As for the brokenz, I guess you could make you own GMMG rip-off
, and it would look..well..Im sure you'll like the "quality"
. But me personally, Ill let the engineering up to the professionals who are know for building some of the best performance street legal F-bodies around. Not to mention a high quality exhaust too
I suppose I could take some plumbing from my garage and weld them together for a nice Longtube header design, and while I am at it I'll make my own camshaft from rounded off hex nuts and a lead pipe.
Make your own thead if you want to bash the cost of quality
I am just giving a great product and company props, no need to hijack it.

Could someone duplicate the quality and looks of a GMMG in their home garage? I doubt it. Could someone have one built locally with mandrel bends that would exactly duplicate the look and sound? I'd say that's probably not likely either. Could someone build a catback that is similiar in look, not look like "crap" as some genius put it, sound as good or almost as good atleast, and save a few hundred bucks or more in the process? Of course.
I'm not bashing the quality of the GMMG. Show me where I questioned the quality of their cat backs. I've seen them and heard them in person. Impressive would be an understatement. I'm just saying that if someone wants to do something similiar for alot less money then it could easily be done. Would it be a GMMG? Of course not. Would it look "exactly" like a GMMG? Nope. Would it carry the prestige of the "GMMG" name? Nope. Some though either want the sound of the GMMG but don't care if something that can't be seen by most people is the prettiest thing in the world, mod our cars with a budget in mind, or are mature enough not to be name snobs when we buy our parts. For those that have the necessary skills or access to an exhaust guy with the necessary skills then their are alternatives.
As far as your longtube header comparison, well some people can weld better than you might think and actually have built thier own headers. It's not black magic. If you lack the skills then buy them premade. I wouldn't try and make my own headers either.
As far as you pipe and nut camshaft comparison, that is so ridiculous that I don't even know what to say. A camshaft involves a knowledge of the properties of steel that is so above welding pipe that it's just ridiculous to even compare the two.
Give props to GMMG. I could care less if you tattoo "GMMG" on your arm inside a heart.
I'll give them props myself. If money is no object then my only two choices would be GMMG or Mufflex. I'm not trying to take away anything from GMMG.
