gm847 dowel pin?

I have a 95 style vented opti and I was going to order this cam from Gmpartsdirect.com, do I need to specify dowel pin length or will it come correct size? Can't remember which is shorter or longer. Is that the cheapest/best place to order it?

Thanks Jason

Hey man I am pretty sure that the vented style is shorter. The cam you sold me has a shorter dowel then the cam my friend just ordered, even tho he has a 95 also. But you said this cc305 came out of a 95 so my cam has to be the right one.

The cams usually come with just a longer than needed pin. You just need to compare your old stock cam to the new cam and cut off the difference.

If the cam you sold me came out of a 95 with a vented opti then the dowel is shorter. No prob. I am still gonna get those springs from you sometime.

The vented opti needs the longer dowel pin.

Re: gm847 dowel pin?

vented is longer as kevvy just said. The 847 comes with the correct length for 95+ cars, but its always a good idea to measure it.

hhhhm....well, maybe I need to compare my friends cam again. Maybe it just looked like his was longer then mine. I can check sometime soon and we can get a for sure answer.

Re: gm847 dowel pin?

Hey I just measured my powel pin on my cc305. The dowel sticks out about 9/14 of an inch from the face of the cam. What should it be for a vented opti??

Re: gm847 dowel pin?

Non vented opti sparks should be about .300" from the face of the cam to the end of the pin.

Vented optis really range. Ive seen values from .605" to .685", but most agree somewhere around .620-.630"ish is good. 9/14" = .642".

Re: gm847 dowel pin?

Ya i really wouldnt worry about it, but if you want it to be perfect, hit it with a file. A hundreth of an inch will only take a stroke or two.
