GM Head Castings Same Left / Right????
GM Head Castings Same Left / Right????
I know, I know, this probably qualifies as a dumb question but you have to excuse me - I used to be a 5-liter Mustang guy...
Anyway I have a 95 Z28 now so it's all good. I just wanted to make sure that GM uses an identical (i.e. interchangeable) cylinder head casting on each side. I always thought that was the case, but I wanted to check and make sure positively - one of my heads is damaged, and I have the opportunity to replace it with a leftover from a friend. Want to make sure it will work.
I probably wouldn't be so crazy right now except that I'm in the middle of an engine swap (all-forged 355) and my car is in 5000 pieces in the garage and driveway, and it's after midnite and I have to work tomorrow!!!

Re: GM Head Castings Same Left / Right????
Yes they are the same. However, both the front and the back of both heads are drilled for the steam vent crossover tube. You just need to make sure you plug the front holes (depends on what head you put on what side). Good luck.
Re: GM Head Castings Same Left / Right????
Right you need to change the two plugs which are on either the front or back of head and put them on end where you need em. Don't forget the coolant sensor which is in the drivers side head near cyl1. If its a passenger head you get just pull out the plug and install your sensor. Their easily swappable just move around plugs. Hope that helps.
