GM 847 for stroker?
GM 847 for stroker?
I really like the specs of the 847 cam, and was just wondering if it would be good for a 383. I know when you up the compression and displacement cam choices are a bit different. Any thoughts/suggestions?
My dad is using it in his 383 impala SS. 11:1 CR, 373s, 3000 stall, and mildly ported lt4s. Everyday driver and he loves it. No cam surge, good idle etc.
Car ran 110 traps (4500 weight) and using partial throttle first few hundred feet.
You can go more radical, but its a good choice for a mild stroker.

Well, it's a 95 Z28. I plan to have advanced induction (phil) do a full port job on my LT1 castings. Probably run around 11:1 compression. Stock 3.42 gears. I would be willing to wrap it to the upper 6k range (6700-6800).
Well you dont mind turning rpms which is good. Combo has a hydrolic grind, 236/244 duration, .608"/.613", 112lsa, i like the lift on it, and the duration isnt crazy. Will prolly roll to ~6700 in a 383 and make nice power across the board. It will lope and may have a hint of surge, but should be very streetable.
Thing is, i STRONGLY suggest gears. Even with the low end torque of a stroker, you still want a little more mechanical advantage to get you moving more quickly.
