GM 847 in speed density (93) car?

Anyone running this combo? Have any problems related to running this cam in a speed density system?

Re: GM 847 in speed density (93) car?

We're running a simular cam in a 93 set-up inmy freinds car. We have the following mods...

30 over LT1, 6 inch rods, steel crank,SRP flat top (2 valve releif pistons), zero decked block, ported LT1 heads with bigger valves,52mm t/b, 1 3/4 inch headers,30# injectors, and a custom nitrous cam with 236/248 .050 duration and 525,540 lift 114 lobe sep. The chip we started with was made for all the same mods (less compression) but with a cc305 cam . The car started and ran pretty good , but had very bad surge at idle , through the revs it was seamless, only part throttle performance was noticeably lacking.

We had the chip tweaked for the cam and compression and it smoothed it out quite a bit, the cruising BLMs are really close and constant, and the O2 readings at wot are right around 890 to 920.

But it still has a slight part throttle surge. With the 112 lobe sep of the 847 I'll bet that will be slightly more pronounced.

I went from a CC 305 to a CC XE 236/248 as well - .555 / .600 with 1.6 rockers 114lsa

The tuning that worked on the 305 was very rich at part/light throttle between 1800/3300 and caused the car to surge pretty bad (almost bucking)
But, I was able to pull fuel out until the surging stopped. I eventually got it to pass dyno emissions in Harris county.

Like these guys are saying, tuning will present the biggest isssue. My ECM has several hundred (literally) flashes on it before it got to the point where i was totally happy with how it performed at the track, and everyday driving. On a chipped car, that is going to take such a long time and heavy pocket (if you get charged for every reburn). Might be cheaper to just swap over to MAF setup.

Alvin, at PCMFORLESS did the chip for my CC305 set-up. My mail order tune was almost perfect. As a matter of fact, when he came up from SC to do a dyno session, we only picked up 3 RWHP from dyno tuning it.

I've aleady contacted him about the 847, and he assures me we can get the same results with it.

We'll see how it all works out.

Wow, Frank.. You mind if I use that in our testimonials?

It shouldn't be a problem. Just let me know when you get it finished.

Well if they say they can do it, then no reason not to believe them.

Re: GM 847 in speed density (93) car?

You did both of our chips as well, when the first chip was inits propper aplication it ran flawless, this newer chip runs very well with minor surge at part throttle, but the motor is very high compression and I really think we may have a vacuume leak.

Thanks, if you have any problems with the surging after you investigate if it has a vaccum leak or not contact us.

You can't mess with experience.

You dang near nailed my old head/cam setup on the first shot. So there's another mail order vote!
