Question Getting rid of the Opti?

Is there a way to completely get rid of the Opti all together? Anyone ever done it? What does it take, costs, etc..?

unless you are an electrical engineer, you should probably just purchase the delteq setup. otherwise you'll have to implement your own sensors to make the computer happy, and then create your ignition system.

on the other hand, it wouldnt be impossible to switch over to a complete LSx/LQx/genIII powertrain control system. you would have to figure out how to use ALL of the sensors from the LSx engine to the LT1, including crank pos, cam pos, water temp, oil pressure, MAPS, TPS, IAC, etc. then you could have the coil per cylinder setup like the LSx. lots of work, but its possible.

on the THIRD hand, you have the LTCC setup which converts your LT1 ignition to the LSx style coil per cylinder setup. however that retains the use of the optical portion of the optispark. www.bailey-eng.com

there is no straightforward/easy/cheap way to completely get rid of the opti.

Re: Getting rid of the Opti?

Try and find one of the 20 or so Electromotive Super-Direct Ignition/Opti-Eliminator (SDI/E-O) kits that were made back in the late 1990's. Completely eliminated the Opti. I ran one for about 2 years. Problem was it synthesized the Opti high and low res pulse patterns from a crank wheel signal, so it had a problem synching the sequential injection correctly. It had a few other probems as well.

Removing the high voltage function from the Opti, and using just the optical sensor seems to reduce the problems.

I already have the LTCC... So it doesn't sound like there much of a way really. We just still have the same miss we have had for the last few months and can't figure it out. Has to be something in the wiring or something,
