This is getting old...
This is getting old...
Alright Among the countless things going/gone wrong with this vehicle IM just gonna ask for some help with 2 of them. JUst replaced the drivers side header because of an accident and after getting it all together I swapped the 5 and 7 plugs ( whatever the furthest 2 back on the right side are) in a haste to get it going and pulled out of the driveway with a slight miss feeling then a loud gunshot bang so I turn it off swap the plugs and she runs fine except for this noise... now I had a blown header gasket before so it may have overshadowed this noise and I havent checked if it does the same thing on the passenger side but at first it sounded like a faint rattle, then I thought maybe the belt chirping slightly, but you cant hear anything out of the ordinary under the hood but under the car where the exhaust dumps is where you hear it its like a "tink tink tin tin tin tink" you can barely hear it, helps if your driving next to a wall. Kind a like a random rattle that goes with the engine but can only be heard from the exhaust. NO smoking or strange driving characteristics just this noise.... could the swapped plugs have messed something up and if so why dont I hear bad **** coming from under the hood and only a wierd soft noise out of the exhaust? Also after the header install my steering suddenly has an inch or 2 of deadspot were the steering wheel moves but the wheels do nothing and the steering wheel kind of bounces back and forth if I dont hold it steady inside the deadspot while driving in a strait line, anyone know what that could be a symptom of? This thing is starting not to be fun anymore, its hardly fun to work on and now my results( which used to be the only thing worth working on it for) are turning up possibly worse problems or creating more annoyances.
Re: This is getting old...
As far as the steering wheel goes, I believe it's the steering knuckle. I had the same problem with mine. The bushings go after awhile. You can replace the bushings with a replacement kit, around 30$, but you have to drill the rivets out and thier big *** rivets! I got a used knuckle off of a friend. Real easy swap, I did have to realign the wheel to dead center. Socket w/universal, wrench, hammer and extension or LARGE flat tip screw driver, to pound the knuckle out and tap back in.
Re: This is getting old...
I hear man I just bought a 94 Z28 off the orginal owner and thought wow this car is clean. comes out I think the trans is going out and after spending money on a good tune up it still runs like junk and its all stock. I have always wanted one but a little out of my price range and run accross I thought was a good deal, it wasn't. I have no clue how to work on the complicated thing and can't afford to take it to a mechanic. Looks like it will sit in the yard and grass will grow up around it. back to driving old faithful.

I had the same problem with my steering wheel.
You should get the kit. All the kit is a round aluminum spacer and screws that replaces the rubber spacer in the knuckle.
Pretty straight forward install. Only hard part is drilling out the rivets.

Re: This is getting old...
Well it seems to drive just fine so Ill wait the 1500 miles till my oil change with this auto rx I have in there and get it analized to see if there is any real problem... As for the deadspot I looked at teh knuckle as the steerring wheel moved and it moved exactly with teh wheel but the tie rods wouldnt move in the deadspot so maybe my rack is bad suddenly...? I did pull the whole steering shaft of at the base where it connects the the rack and pinion.
