Getting LT4 Hocam, Do i need LT4 TIming Chain?

Ok heres the deal. I have kindof a bad leak at the timing chain gasket. I am taking it to the shop and i am just going to get the hotcam put in the same time i replace the gasket. My question is do i need to get the LT4 timing chain? Would that work better?? And is the kit i will buy from Jason Cromer come with everything i need? Thanks for the help in advance. And just for the record, no i dont want to go with a bigger cam. The hotcam is good enough for me. Thanks.

You can use the stock timing chain, but the lt4 set is stronger. If you don't rev past 6000 rpms you should be fine with the stock chain and gears.

How high do most guys go RPM wise with the hotcam? If the LT4 Timing chain would be in any way beneficial i would just rather buy and install it. I like to be thorough. Thanks for the quick response.

Since it is probably time for a timing chain replacement anyway now would be the perfect time to do it. I think you have to get the whole timing set. You will probably put out max HP at around 6K with that cam.

If you go to LT4 set, use the extreme duty set. Talked to cloyes engineer over gm section, he pointed out the the regular LT4 timing set has no advantage over regular LT1 set. The extreme is the only set for sustained hi-performance. May want to get the oversized crank gear, though, will reduce slack in timing chain. At the bare minimum, if retaining stock gears, get new chain.

The stock timing set will work fine but the LT4 timing set is a nice upgrade and it will work without modification on your 95,it is alittle better than stock because the LT1 had a 5800 redline and gm upgraded the LT4 timing set because of the LT4 6300 redline.

FWIW I reved to 6700 on the stock chain with a cc306. I'm more of a fan of a double roller and a electric h20 pump. You would gain more hp that way and also have a stronger chain and gears than the LT4 extreme duty.

But my cam is not as extreme as the cc305 so do you really think its necessary? And what is the whole timing piece called or refered to as???? Thanks.

I would just go with a stock replacement chain. You should not need the gears unless they are excessively worn. I think going with the lt4 set up is unnessary. Look at it this way LT4 set $300 vs. stock chain $40???? The stock chain will be more than sufficent for you with the lt4 hot cam. HTH

Sorry for so many questions but is it possible to by just the LT4 Chain?? It might not be necessary and it may sound stupid but i would like to make it a LT4. Thanks.

The lt4 chain will not work with out the gears. They are bigger than the stock ones. If you did buy the chain it would have way to much slack.
