Getting Knock Retard...What to do?
Hey guys,
I finally got Autotap and am able to see what my car is doing. I made a few runs last night with it and logged a few files. I made one WOT run and took her up to around 100 mph. At peak RPM's betweem shifts, I was getting almost 5 degrees of knock retard. I know this is hurting my performance, but by how much? What do you guys recommend doing? I've had my PCM programmed by Madwolf already....maybe do a re-program? Mods in sig below.

If it's happening "between" shifts like you said, then I wouldn't worry about it too much.
But I had a problem with knock retard recently and here's what I did to kill it...
1) I run a 200 amp alternator so I put my stock back on to make sure it wasn't a magnetic field issue.
2) I installed the LT4 KM, shouldn't need it, but I put it in. Made it a tad better, but it was still there.
3) Seafoamed the car, and changed the oil about 50 miles later. No change.
4) Added 2 gallons of 110 racing fuel to 1/2 tank of 93. Learned that with my A4, if I had it in OD and kicked it I would get knock until it downshifted and took off, then the knock would taper off. But if I ran in 3rd and kicked it, I got less knock for a short time but it all came back like before.
5) Verified that plug wire wasn't near the knock sensor wire.
6) Changed oil to 10w-30 for testing to see if it quieted it up a little more. No Change
6) Changed knock sensor - THIS DID IT!!!
