getting headers
getting headers
i should be getting $300 soon and with the money ive saved up im trying to buy some mac mid-length headers. where did you guys get yours? ive been searching and cannot find a place that is cheap. i swore i saw people saying they got them for like $420 but now i cant find the threads. ive heard many people got them from speedinc.com. perhaps im just an idiot but i cannot find a link on their page for lt1 headers. they have other stuff like wheels/tires/pcm, etc but i see no exhaust. can anyone help me out here?
thanks,
adam

Re: getting headers
New Era Performance Parts has them for $400 but I hear the coating is not very good. I am trying to decide if I should order them from there or get them from Jet Hot for $560, but with much better coating.

Re: getting headers
Im looking to put mac mid lengths on too, but yea i dont kno what happened to LS1speed.com because i went there one day and they changed the site and looks like they dropped all exhaust products! i guess we will have to take our business else where
but yea i heard new era has them cheap. they come with an offraod y pipe and it says comes with a starter kit for a cat, are cat's easy too hook up to that y pipe?

Re: getting headers
thanks...i finally found the link anyway but i appreciate the help. im not sure about the cats as mine were removed when i bought the car, knowing how to weld might help though haha. i was looking at coated headers but i dont drive my car in the winter and probably not going drive too much in the rain so im going to buy some rust proofing paint...this stuff we used on the frame of my friend's chevelle. once it drys you cannot chip it, rust cannot form there and if you have rust underneath it, it is supposed to stay contained in that one area...i guess we will see. (this stuff is around $100/gallon i think so im going to see if they have any left over hah) after that i was thinking about just spraying them with some silver engine enamle. by the way this is heat proof up to 600 degrees where as some engine enamle is only up to 500. for heat issues, slp has some wrap stuff but it doesnt really look like wrap...more like boots if you will that is made out of ceramic that is supposed to prevent some problems. or instead of all that i might buy a set of used coated headers...but the problem in my opinion was that the coated ones will eventually rust anyway so i was hoping to take a different approach. actually i may just buy the paint and do my whole exhaust system and any rust prone areas underneath my car. perhaps it sounds dumb but i really dont care becuase im not sure if thats even what im going to do yet.

Re: getting headers
Those headers easily get over 1,000 degrees. They have heat treated paint for 1500 degrees, but painting looks crappy if it's not prepped right. I have jet hots which have a very nice coating. I got them used for $300 from this board. Just look around, mine are perfect.
Re: getting headers
yea i was thinking there would probably be some heat issues...still getting the paint for the rest of the underside of my car...i like projects like that. anyway once i get the money (hopefully this week) i will be looking around.
