Getting the CAI actual cold air
Getting the CAI actual cold air
I installed my K&N CAI on my (new) 97Z today and as you know the filter hangs down below in the lower left compartment.
Though the compartment isnt airtight by any means, does the CAI get enough cold air at that location to achieve max performance?
I've heard of some people cutting spaces in their wheel well to allow cold air to get in the compartment, but I don't want to do this because I wouldnt want to mess up the filter if it rained or something.
What are yall's thoughts on this. Thanks,
Jay

Unless you drive through deep puddles I dont think it would mess it up any worse than when it regularly rains. I have functional ram air and dont have problems when it's raining and I'm pretty much forcing water onto my filter when I'm cruisin.
yea i have the cut out piece by the air damn with a piece that helps direct it in ( although it fell off) i have another one i bought. u can pick one up at any hardware store.
(thanks eddie for it)

I made a scoop for mine about 1 or so years ago. I just cut the plastic thats directly under the CAI and screwed a tin wedge shaped scoop there. I drive with it open all the time. Does tend to dirty up the engine bay more. How long has Rksport forums been down? I stop going there as much and when i went to go back it was shut down.
So did yall notice any additional increase by adding the scoops/spaces than w/ the regular CAI???
I'm tryng to decide if cutting holes or adding a "CAI air dam" is worthwhile. Thanks,
Jay
