Getting an 96 LT4 small block with LT1 heads

I'm in the process of getting a 96 LT4 short block from another member this next weekend and I just had a few questions about getting parts for it and such.

It was pulled from a vette with less than 50,000 miles and had LT1 heads placed on it. And it's going into a 95 Camaro listed in my sig.

I know the 96 is the OBD II so I'll have to get a new knock sensor or pull the one out of my 95 LT1 if I can pull it out with breaking the sucker.

and I have my time cover so that won't be a problem either. And all my other engine brackets/accessories.

Question is that when shopping for new senors like the oil pressure sending unit for example (which i don't know if the engine will have it on their or not, just being prepared and getting a shopping list for gaskets, seals, and parts i need) do i need to shop for a 96 lt4 one or the 95 lt4/lt1 one? or does it even make a difference because they could all be the same?

To put it simply, is there anything else I need besides swapping out the knock sensor and using my timing cover?

And is there any place besides gmpartsdirect, summit, jegs that has cheap priced gaskets, seals, ect..?

Thanks

i dont believe you have to change the timing cover, just plug the hole or leave the sensor in it. i just left the sensor in mine.

i'd change 02 sensors just because, unless your sure yours are ok.

check the plug wires, if you decide on new plug wires put them on before installing the engine in the car..

gaskets and seals and such can be bought from autozone, advanced auto parts and oreillys.

when i did my engine swap i also got a transmission filter and a case of fluid and changed that while i was at it.

I have my timing cover from a 95 engine, so i won't need to plug any holes. Plus it isn't coming with a timing cover from what I understand

Planned to change my O2's as the car had a lot of miles and ran like crap before it actually crapped out on me.

The rest of that I know, that's all basic stuff. But Thanks

I just need to know if their are any part differences with senors and such that deal with the actual engine block or basically is it the same as an lt1 block? Even if I don't need them now but for future reference it would be nice to know.

I'm pretty sure all the senors that hook up to my original block will fit this newer lt4 block. But it never hurts to double check.

The only advantage to the block you have if it truly came out of a vette it should have 4 bolt mains. Other than that...identical to any LT1 block.

The short block will be the same block you have in your 95 now, but will have 4-bolt mains. The pistons will have slightly smaller valve reliefs, and cambered rings. The crank will be undercut, with rolled fillets. The damper will be different, with a dual-mass design. You need to check the length of the hub, to make sure it puts the pulley in the right position.

It will have a heavier steel cam sprocket with a roller chain. The cam will be basically the same as the LT1 cam, with a bit more lift only if you are using 1.6X roller rockers. If you use LT1 1.5X stamped rockers, you will have less lift with the LT4 cam than you had with the LT1 cam.

You can't buy parts for a 95 LT4 because there never was a 95 LT4. The LT4 engine was used only in the 1996 Corvettes with the M6 trans, 106 97 Camaro SS's and 29 97 Firehawks.

Alright awesome! so pretty much everything i've read about the two holds up. Just making sure there wasn't anything weird or unusual about it. Thanks

Also it's not coming with a cam, and mine has too many miles on it and other imperfections.

I was just thinking about slapping an Lt4 hotcam in it and use my stamped rockers from my lt1 until i have enough $$ to get 1.6 roller rockers. The heads on the engine come with new comp cams 918 springs so the springs should be able to handle it.
That shouldn't be a problem, should it?
