Re: Getting 224/230 cam installed...

Finally got my car back today after a few install 'issues'. Actually got it back on thursday, but had to bring it back because there was a pretty large oil leak coming from the intake manifold, and it needed to be resealed.

Now that that is out of the way..impressions:

Can't get on the gas for a recommended 1000 mile break in period where I have to pretend there are 'eggshells' under the accelerator, so that blows. They want me to bring it back in then, to make sure everything is still tight, and working properly....and charge me another 1 hr of labor for this...please let me know if this is a load of BS or not.

Driving around normally, it drives pretty much stock. There is no surge at all anywhere. Madz28 tune seems to be right on..at least as far as driving under light loads. You need to give it a touch more gas to get it moving, but the 2800 stall is pretty tight. Power accessories are perfectly normal.

Sounds amazing . Have As&m headers, stock cat, and cut-out. Much much louder at idle than stock with just the cut-out open. Sounds real nasty and its quite deep with a good chop to it. Signifigantly louder under part throttle, can't wait to floor it.

The day it stops raining, i will get a video of the idle loaded up. And eventually some track and dyno #'s.

Re: Getting 224/230 cam installed...

i have the 224/230 cam in my 93. madz28 also dyno-tuned my car. with 24# injectors it was leaning out real bad so i put 30# injectors in it. went back to the dyno with ion (madz28) again for another tuning session. after the dyno tune it feels like a whole new car. with a stock bottom end and completely stock unported heads my car runs 11.90's on motor and 10.70's on a 150 shot. last year i was pulling 1.49 60' times with the stock torque arm. i also have the 700r4 but with a manual valve body so i never have to worry about setting shift points (which is for sale, entire trans just rebuilt after removal and 3600 midwest converter for $700) my car weighs about 3100 lbs. and all thats done is the cam, hooker LT's, borla xr1, 30# injectors, qa1's, lakewood lca's, 9", prostars, 28" hoosier drags, NX wet kit. oh yea, and weight reduction.

with some weight reduction and your suspension set up to drag race you should go low 12's all day. my 60' times on motor last year were high 1.5's. this year i finally got a new torque arm and took out my 700r4 for a th400 with a trans-brake.

very nice. did you happen to run the car before some of the weight reduction? what was your trap with the 11.90 with weight reduction?

When you noticed it leaning out, what driving symptoms were you facing? other then maybe not the times you were expecting? This way I know what to look for before I plan on taking it to the dyno. not sure if theres a way to tell by driving about running really lean.

You can pretty much figure 1/10 for every 100lbs of weight reduction. So he is running .4-.6 qiucker on just weight reduction.

You don't have to break in hydrolic roller camshafts. Go out there and drive the hell out of it.

I've had alot of good results with that cam, It makes great power and is a great street cam.

You should be ok on injector as I've dyno tuned them with stock injectors and they have been fine. The 93 LT1 injectors can go up to about 360rwhp before getting completely maxed out.

I figure to be around that range when I get something done to my heads. I think I am gonna upgrade to 30#'s when at the same time I get my heads done.

Re: Getting 224/230 cam installed...

I ran the LT4 hotcam with AFR 190cc heads ported. Had Bryan Herter tunning and 3.73's and 3500 stall. On Freescan runs my injector pulse width on 24 lb injectors at WOT was at 22. 24 is max wide open all the time. With my new setup and 224/230 Bryan suggested I go to 30 lb SVO's. My injectors now run 15-16 at WOT. So I would suggest Going to 30 lb injectors. Just my two cents. Good luck.

i trapped around 111 every 11.90 run. the only times i have before weight reduction are from when the car was completely stock. as far as the car leaning out, the only way to really tell that is by looking at the plugs.
