Gen 1 SBC in Gen 4 Camaro
Gen 1 SBC in Gen 4 Camaro
I want to put a Gen 1 sbc with carb in my 94 Z28. I only have a few questions. Will HEI clear the firewall? Do I need "custom" headers...or do I have to re-flange something like a pacesetter? How easy/hard is the motor mount change?

Yes, a late HEI with the separate coil will clear the firewall, though you probably won't be able to remove it once it's in. Standard LT1 headers will work fine. I'm not sure on the motor mount question, though you might want to check out a BMR K member that is designed for this swap.

Going with the carb set-up you'll need to remove the computer, wiring harness and everything. Some parts of the wiring will have to be pushed back out of sight (the one's that run to the fuse box on the drivers side). You'll also need a different fuel pump and line, if your using a newer model trans you'll have to buy a stand alone unit to run it or go to a non computer trans: th350, th400 etc. Also you'll have to change out the gauge cluster inside the car. If you didn't already have the Gen 1 sbc with carb I'b buy something a little bigger since your having to make all those changes anyway. But either way it depends on what you've already got and what your wanting to spend.
Also depending on what intake you run you may have to cut the cowl area and run a cowl hood like the one in my sig picture.

Um...yeah I sorta already have the Gen 1 picked out. I'm going to use one of the three extra engines for my Laguna. I already have the engines built and paid for...so no LT1 build cost.
