Gen 1 Question

Well after trashing everything in the bottom end of my lt1 block and taking out the block. I have been researching and reseaching and still need a couple answers. I have a reg gen 1 sbc bottom end sitting here. I am trying to figure out how in the hell to get my lt1 topend on it. Here is a list of questions for the experts.

Are the heads and direct swap?

I know I need a electric water pump.

With the accessory bracket from a lt1 bolt up to a gen 1 block with lt1 heads?

How can I internal balance the bottom end so I can run a lt1 balancer hub?

Will I be able to modify a gen 1 cam to have a cam dowel on it?

Anything else i am forgetting let me know. I want a lt1 topend of a gen 1 bottom end.

They will bolt on, but the cooling passages are different so it's a no-go.

I believe it would.

The LT1 cam is simply a standard small block cam with a longer dowel pin.

You're starting off this project all wrong. While parts can be modified, usually it ends up being someone chasing horsepower and converting gen I heads to the LT1 block, this is way beyond the scope, and way beyond being worthwhile money-wise from a basic rebuild standpoint. How much money do you have available to get this motor going again?

Re: Gen 1 Question

You can't use the LT1 fuel injection without the Opti, and you can't put the Opti on a Gen 1 block, at least not without inventing the conversion for the front of the block. Someone has mounted a distributor in the conventional position and managed to adapt the Opti optical sensor.

That's only true if he has a factory roller cam block, otherwise the snout of the cam is diferent, and does not use a retainer plate.
