Looking to put some gears in my ride. have the crappy 2.73's in now looking at the 3.73 Richmonds for a Series 2 Carrier. Should I upgrade to a Series 3 Carrier for any reason???

If you're gonna upgrade to a 3 series carrier, might as well get 3 series gears. You'll also need an ABS reluctor gear for it to work properly ($19). SLPOnline has great deals on gears and carriers..I got my carrier for $99. Their gears are dead quiet too. I'd stay away from those Richmonds if I were you..they are notorious for gear whine.
Well thats obvious if i go with a series 3 carrier I would need series 3 gears. I appreciate the heads up on the richmonds though i did not know they were the ones that whined. Do you have the part numbers you bought from SLP which zexel diff. and the abs reluctor ring. then i can just order the gears from them.

PersonallY I think there is no reason to upgrade to a series 3 carrier unless your current one is broken. I would just get a set of Strange Gears for a series 2 carrier. I would recommend against Richmond since they whine.

Oops, I meant 3 series gears --> 3 series carrier. You could get those Strange gears but they're still going to whine a bit (The 2 series carrier is always going to be a little thicker).Originally posted by SnkEatr

Reluctor gear #: 26029
Differential / Carrier # : 64501T
Search Ebay for some used OEM GM gears, you'll find them for $50 - guaranteed not to whine.
Totals gonna be $170 including new differential - still cheaper than that Richmond ring and pinion set you were looking at.

No whine on my setup.
