That "cool sound" can have an impact on knock sensing, some say.

Re: gear driven timing set

The Pete Jackson gear drive has been installed on LT1's. Requires conversion to an electric water pump, since the PJ unit won't have the drive for the stock water pump. Then the noise will require that you elminate the knock sensor. The timing cover will need to be machined for extra clearance.

I have a link to an install.... guy ran it for about a year and tore it out because he couldn't stand the noise. Go to "My 94 Firebird", and scroll down to 1999 and 2000.

Re: gear driven timing set

i just thought it sounded cool, kinda like a supercharger. Maybe I'll just get one of those instead! I just didnt know if it was possible or not with the way they are set up. Your mods page in unbelievable!!! Looks good! Is the gear vendors overdrive only a 1 gear add-on? I've been looking at some of their stuff for my '69 and it can add multiple gears to make it much easier on the highway.

Has anyone seen the new gear box for the 4l60e's that make them as fast at shifting as the f-1 cars? and it gives you like 8 gears? check out the new super chevy magazine. it looks sweet. Just dont know if someone would need it on the strip, maybe a road course though.

Re: gear driven timing set

The Gear Vendors O/D is a simple 0.78:1 planetary unit. It can be engaged in any gear.... so with the TH400, it give you 6 forward speeds. Not sure I would ever use if for anything more than a 4th gear though. But with 4.11's and street tires, its essential to keep RPM below 4,000 at 70mph.
