Gave Up On Lt1

all right, i took the lt1 to the chevy dealer, my car jsut crank and no start! well, i got a call about 6 pm from the tech manager, he said that the starter needed replacing, i knew that, the alternator too, i also knew that but they cannot figure out why the car won't start, they say the opti is perfect and there is good fuel pressure/ so i asked the tech what to do? and he tells me that he does not know. now i get pissed and tell him how in the hell they would not know and they are the dealer???? god i'm so frustrated with this car. the car just cranks and you'll hear a pop in the intake manifold. so to end the story the tech tells me to wait a call on monday to see what the other fbody specialist think about it.

what a pain!

So the engine is cranking but not firing? If thats the case, then how can the starter be bad? Sounds like those dudes don't know what there talking about. A problem like this doesn't require an LT1 specialist, just a mechanic that knows what he is doing. Some dealerships have gotten so lame. Hope things work out for you.

they replaced both the starter and alternator, i instructed them to do so, my car would only crank if hitted with a hammer or after several attempts in the key ignition, and the alternator was bad.

hmmm getting fuel and spark but won't start... pop in intake manifold... sounds like you can possibly have a broken timing chain. Did you check that?

oh **** dude, that sounds expensive! well, the car is sitting at the dealer now, the weird thing is that the car ran fine, and all of the suddem it die and would start for about 5 sec and die, and now no start at all.

Easy way to check that is to pull the oil cap off and see if the rockers are moving while cranking the engine. The only other things that can cause a car not to start when it has fuel and spark would be incorrect timing/firing order a mechanical problem with the engine or a pcm problem. not to familar with 93's but with the age and probably mileage i would check that out.

Re: Gave Up On Lt1

Check the injectors with Noid Lights. Just because you are getting fuel pressure ( Which is most likely what they checked) doesnt mean you are getting the signal from the PCM to open the injectors. I forget which fuse it was on my car, but if I pulled it, the noid lights owuldnt flash when cranking, and everything else seemed to work. It would crank and crank, no start. I think it may actually be the PCM fuse. Its jsut something to consider.

Also, pull a plug wire, and plug, and crank it and see if they are getting a considerable spark. The opti may be fine, but what about the coil? It would sound wierd 9 times out of 10 with a broken timing chain because certain valves would be stuck open and you could hear the air swishing back past them instead of being compressed as you crank it. Also, if it was the timing chain, it wouldnt start for a few seconds then die. It just owuld have died, and that would have been that. No 2nd chances. And they are expensive to have done btw. I think your problem is something fuel related.

Make sure they checked for both injector pulse, and fuel pressure. Withouth proper fuel pressure, it could run for a few seconds then die? My blazer did that once. And then it just wouldnt start again. When you get in and turn the key to on, but not start, can you hear the fuel pump kick on ( That whizzing sound from the back of the car, as soon as you turn key on but dont crank it )

So, looks like you have a $1296 coil because that's probably what was bad that was causing your car to not run

But, on the bright side... you got one hell of a tune up!

and the coil is probably worth 12.99 at auto zone. hahah oh well, when i said not bad i was expecting a bigger bill since it was a dealer performing all the work.

he said all the plugs were kind of wet and the cables were burned pretty bad from the headers.
