Gasket for '96 left exhaust manifold flange?

I'm replacing all of my exhaust gaskets. I ordered a set of Mr. Gasket copper gaskets for the exhaust maifold but I can't find anything for the left (drivers) side exhaust flange. If you're not familiar with it, it's the flange coming off the header right before the left side converter. It's got a really funky shape to it and Felpro seems to be the only people that make that gasket (stocker). I can't seem to get it to seal correctly with the stock gasket and I'd like to use something a little better.

Any suggestions on where I can get a new gasket made from something other than the Felpro paper/screen?

I have a 95 Twin Cat Cali model and I know what gasket you are talking bout. I was gunna buy it from Fel-pro and when I click to purchase it sent me to a yahoo site that was charging $10,001.00 for shipping on a $ 3 or 4 dollar gasket.... I tryed again and got the same rate....

GMparts direct.com has the gasket but its more expensive and it comes down to about $17 dollars delivered to hawaii... I remember. PartsAmerica.com sells it via Checkers Auto Parts but they dont have it in Stock here in Hawaii ... once again the delivery is like 12 dollars I remember plus about 8 dollars for the Gasket its a fel-pro.

What I did with my gasket is that I coated the sucker with no less than 12 heavy coatings of Red or is it orange?? Copper Gasket maker spray.... I let it dry enough for the next heavy coat on each side. I have a perfect seal but next time I remove that cat I will have to buy the bullet and buy it from GM....

I dont have the GM parts number right now but is about 8 dollars for the Gasket plus about 7 dollars delivery.

Get it at the dealer. Much better quality gasket with the metal inner ring.
I recommend you buy both sides from the dealer, you will be happier in the
end. Also, the factory gaskets for the head/manifold are really good, and
reasonably priced.

I have one that's still in a GM bag. Part # 12550283 That's the big triangle looking one. Also have 2 for the passenger side. Part # 10168551. I'm pretty sure those were for my 96 WS6. If they are, just make me an offer as I won't be needing them

As for the copper gaskets, I could never get them to seal. The factory 3ply(?) worked the best.

Re: Gasket for '96 left exhaust manifold flange?

Thanks for the reply's. I didn't think about the spray on gasket maker. The last time I put it in I used the Felpro with the inner metal ring. I took two of them, put a huge amount of Copper RTV in the middle and sandwiched them together, let it dry and done the same for the outside when I put it in. It held up for about 1 1/2 years before it finally gave out. I was just hoping I could stick an ultraseal copper gasket in there and be done with it or something.

Rob, I'll let you know about that funny triangle shaped one if I can't find one local. I don't have a gasket on the other side after I put my shorty's in. I had to cut the stock pipe and weld a ball joint to it. I wish I could just do the same on the drivers side. That would make life easier...hum

Can you do that? Just cut off that big honkin' flange on the drivers side and weld a ball joint in place of it? That would mean no more gaskets! Or, is there a real reason to have a flange that's such a pain in the **** over there?

Anyone?

Re: Gasket for '96 left exhaust manifold flange?

I was having the same trouble with keeping things sealed up. I then relieved that the nut were seized on the studs. The studs were backing out of the manifold when I took the exhaust out. After replacing all of the ones giving trouble, I haven't had anymore leaks. Truedualws6 is correct, about about buying the gaskets from the dealer.. I bought all the parts from my local dealer and I was happy with the prices..

I'll have to stop by my local dealer and see if they have one in stock. I know it's not the studs, I don't have any. I dropped in some BBK shorty's a couple years ago and three bolts that go through the entire flange on both the header and the pipe. I'll check the bolts though, maybe they losend up or something.
