Gas milage...
Not trying to be a ****, but if that is the case then why do the M6 guys have a 6th gear. Why didn't they just give us a 5 speed?
I did imply it in my previous post however. I must admit, I really hate to spell it out word for word... I am sorry.
Open up your mind and realize that driving with a 6th gear and at your resonant peak torque RPMs you will have the best mileage per gallon ever!!! (disclaimer: I know its not posible for you to use those RPMs and drive your car in a public street/road and I am not implying you should try in any way. I am merely stating the facts known to me)
OH and do me a favor... please read my entire post before you jump On my throat... did you read the part......
Now remember... transfering this RPMs into Max distance traveled is what makes a diff too.... you can't expect to have a huge mile increase while in 1st gear of course.
What do you think I mean in this sentence?? Let me spell it in a diff way.... "you CAN expect to have better gas mileage while driving in 6th gear" Get it now?? You CAN'T EXPECT IN FIRST GEAR BUT YOU CAN EXPECT IT IN 6TH GEAR....
I am sorry if I sound as if I am chewing up on your face out but I got upset. Did you do any research on engines and fuel efficiency before you strangled me?? if you did, please pass the info of where.. so I can educate myself by studying it... please. Tell me where did you get your reference from.
Thank you.

I do basically all-city driving (40 and under) and usually get around 12.5 MPG.
Thought I was alone, now I see I'm not! That's even with a few nitrous hits here and there.
I think it's safe to say that you'll get the best MPG when your injector pulse-widths are the lowest, which would tend to happen at the lowest RPM where your MAP is 40 or under (no large load). Which would explain why we have a 6th gear. As long as you're not lugging the engine (lots of throttle), you'll get the best MPG with the lowest RPMs that keep you moving.

Actually my friend... going down hill, tranny in neutral and engine off..
Just messing with you dude. You rignt about that.. smallest pulse with... 6th gear.. lowest RPMs.. huh
If I keep my vacum at say 16inches I wonder how far and how fast can I go??
I give up man.
so..... Yes all of you are right!!!! and I am wrong!!!!
next tread!!

When I first got my Z she was doing about 240 city and 300 highway, With the mods I now get 300 highway and a little less city only because in the city is when I have to drive like a maniac because people do not know how to drive!!
I get about 19-20mpg with a mix of highway/city driving, mostly highway though.
A4, stock cam, 2600 convertor, 3:73's, full exhaust and an intake. I did notice a good bit of an increase when I installed the headers, a couple mpg's worth.

I'm lucky to get 200 miles to a tank. I only run it down to the red empty mark. I get on it a little but I'm usually really light footed on the throttle on the street and I havent been to the track in 2 months. I've made it 330 miles all highway on just under 1 1/4 tank of gas.

You guys are all forgetting that at the resonant frequency(best torque) the RPM's are pretty high. This might mean that the engine runs the most efficient, but all your accessories suck up more HP(power steering pump, alternator, water pump, A/C compressor).
Plus, in 6th gear at those RPM's, wind drag is the dominant force holding back speed, and reducing fuel economy big time.
Engine peak efficiency and fuel economy don't peak at the same RPM.
I average 21.5 MPG mixed city and highway.

last summer i went to panama city beach. i filled up in charlotte nc and drove all the way through sc and well into georgia with cruise set on 80 and a/c ON. the mileage was 395 and put in 15 gallons of gas. this equals 26.3 mpg. pretty good for a car with 200k+ miles on it!
i was going to see how good it was on the way back with a/c off but the girlfriend kept complaining about the heat...oh well!

Women, women, women. I know what you mean when you say she kept complaining.
They know we men dont complaint when they go on tormenting us with their continuios complaining (naggin).
My car does 216miles with 14.5 gallons of gas. mostly city driving.

I've tracked my milage since the day I bought my car new in '97.
Best MPG ratings, on different occasions(all highway): 28.1, 28.5, 31.5, and lots of 27's MPG
Worst: All city driving: 15.1 MPG (third tank of gas ever), and a lot of 16's MPG
