Gas Fumes

I have a 97 TA with the LE2 head/cam package. I was wondering why i smell gas fumes when i am just sitting at idle. The exhaust is dumped, but i was told it had something to do with the pcv valve and crank case pressure. Has anyone heard of this? What can i do to fix it? And is there anyway to run tailpipes with true duals on an F-body?

Re: Gas Fumes

If you had a problem with the PCV system, you would have other problems. You didn't mention other problems.

More than likely you have a problem with the evap system and particularly with the area of the charcoal canister. But let's not assume anything until you do a little more digging.

Does it have any smell when the car is off?
Does the smell come from the exhaust? Does it appear to be running rich? Is fuel mileage down? How's the air filter? Have any plugs been checked? Any crankcase dilution?

Did the smell problem coincide with the install of anything or any other type of work?

Is there any area of the vehicle where the smell is the strongest?

Have you checked for fuel leaks along the entire fuel system?
How fast does the fuel pressure drop off after the engine is shut down?
