Gas coming out of gas cap

Recently after I fill up my tank and start driving around, gas leaks out of it and onto my paint! I wanna try to figure this out before I get the car painted. I also switched gas caps and that didn't seem to help

Any ideas

Uhhh Trey, why don't you zip it before I beat the living p!ss out of you at Cedar Point! There's no math involved in this. The gas cap is "right" and the pipe is "right"

And no, I'm not over-filling it stupid face

Any useful suggestions??

Might be something wrong with the vent. It is a small, round plastic thing that is clipped onto the LH, rear brake hose bracket.

I noticed this on a 35th SS the other day...he came around a sharp curve starting up a hill, and gas pooring everywhere. One thing too Kevin - if you overfill it even just a little bit, it can do this. Meaning, anything right before it clicks off, and definitely anything after it clicks off. But my guess would be something to do with the vent as well.

I was having this same problem. I tried replacing the gas cap with a new one and that still didn't help.

So I figured that I was over filling it. Now when the pump clicks off I stop, I don't try to round up to the dollar or anything. I'm not sure why it does it on this car, but every other car I have had I've never had a problem with it leaking just for adding a little after the pump clicks off.

I am having the same problem. I definitely do not over fill it and I have the same problem with a vented cap or the original non vented cap. It leaks all over the white paint and stains it. I reaplce the vent last year and it did not help. The original vent looked OK. I have owned the car since new and it has always done this. It is the only thing about the car that pi$$es me off.

If anybody has a solution, I am dying to hear it!

Back on topic here, if you grab the cap and squeeze it hard and push in a bit while you are turning the cap you can get it to seal really tight.

You just have to wrap your hand on to it and squeeze like a man.

Don't let it click once and just call it good.

I had this happen once too. Here in the Peoples Republic of New Jersey, you can't pump your own gas. Well the guy at the pump, when he put my gas cap back on, did'nt seat it right, thus no seal. Gas everywhere. I know it's trivial but make sure you're seating the cap right, because they should seal up. If I remember right, the later cars actually could throw a code due to a pressure leak at the cap.

I know what you mean. It has happened to me several times but I have my local gas station guys trained to let me pump my own gas. What you mention is definitely a problem but it happens when the cap is sealed correctly. What I don't understand is that the gas erupts out sometimes even when the tank is only half full if I remove the cap. It builds up pressure for some reason. I have replaced the ventso I am not sure what is going on.
