fuel system question on a 97z

i had some free time at work and hooked up a fuel pressure gauge and found the pressure to be 25psi and holding steady the other day(this was saturday) tonight i hooked it up again and found the pressure to be at 30 psi and holding steady like normal then i cleaned the water out of my back seat and the pressure was at 45psi with the key off and i never cycled it while i was cleaning im not sure what is going on, i checked the regulator by pulling the vacuum off with the car running and there was no change in pressure and there was no gas comming out of it like it was leaking, the fuel system holds a steady pressure and doesnt drop off so im not sure whats wrong with this car but if i can avoid spending $250 on a racetronix fuel pump unit right now then i'll wait until after x mas to get it.. i would like to just focus on what the problem is now so i don't have to worry about the next time i start it up is the car gonna buck and surge or stumble or am i going to make it home ok... what do you guys think the problem is anyone else have this problem??

sounds like the regulator needs to be replaced. Makes sure you have vacuum on the small plastic line. With the line removed psi should be between 41 to 47 and with the line connected. there should be a 3 to 10 psi drop from the first reading with the line off. If not, replace fpr.

the line has vacuum and it doesnt drop at all it stays the same line on or off and with the car running the pressure is about 25-30psi and like i said any lower then 25 the car runs like crap..

Re: fuel system question on a 97z

I bought mine through TPIS. I have had it for a few years now with no problems. They sell two units, one is complete or the other is just a top hat. cut off the top off a (working) stock unit and replace with an adjustible top. There are others, but I have heard other people having trouble with some of them.

here are a couple:

If you just require the pump assembly (RX-FLT1-FPA) they are available from Thunder Racing for apx. $150.00. Best part is there is no ' hacking up your fuel module and everything plugs in as factory.

Please take the time to read our ad as it will help you understand the FLT1 factory fuel system and what the Racetronix product has to offer over a generic off the shelf pump.

The more current your alternator can provide the better.
Items only draw what they need based on the supply voltage and their resistance / impedance. amps = volts / resistance.
