Fuel pump possibly?

After my car gets to operating temp, it starts to miss, and backfire, loses all power, and barely makes it home. It never fully dies though. I am new to these cars, but I am not sure if this is opti related, I hope not. I've replaced the coil, icm, and, wires still the same. Its a 94 TA with 180k but new motor, so it seems there could be a few culprits. When its sat for the night or 2 or more hours, its fine with zero issues. Think it could be the fuel pump? It just passed emmissions and has no ses light on. When it backfires, its always through the exhaust, never through the intake, so it forably seem like its getting spark at the wrong time just loud pops. Feels like an intuned turbo car running too lean, not enough fuel, which leads back to my fuel pump thought. Any ideas?

Thanks

The only way to rule out fuel pressure issues is by attaching a test gauge to see what you've got.

Normal is about 40 psi with the pump primed and about 47 if you pull the vacuum line off of the regulator to simulate WOT.

Idling I get about 35 psi, wot I hit about 45. Tommorrow I will get it warmed up to miss, and test the pressure. Could that elbow cause issues like this when it warms up?

Well it seems if I drive the hell out of it, more into the gas, its fine. Is it possible for the fuel pump to act up when it gets too hot, after cycling the warm gas through it when I am light on the pedal?

Alright, drove the car for a good bit today, and it was the very first time it had died. It would just stop and roll to the stop and barely fire up. Trying to get it cranked one time for a minute, it almost smelt flooded, and I could hear the fuel pump. Sitting in the parking lot I hooked up the fuel gauge and it set at 35 when it fired up, rev it, and it would drop to about 30, pull the vac line on the fpr and it would sit at 42. The line is still hooked up and sitting outside the hood, so I can watch it tomorrow. Let it sit for a minute and it fires up after it dies. Opti or fuel pump? Have money for 1 and I need transportation.

I need help bad guys, the ses light came on and off a few times today, does either one got in and out when it goes bad?

Thanks

Don't think it could be the fuel pump at all? Everyones quick to jump to opti, I just don't want to waste my time and money.
