Fuel line 6AN options

i want to make my fuel lines look nicer by switching to black braided lines and 6AN fittings. i'd like to mount an inline filter on the drivers side shock tower. i have a few questions and i'm open to suggestions.
first of all, how can i get my fuel rail compatable with the new lines and fittings? I don't want a custom fuel rail yet, i'm tryin to keep costs down for now. Is there a way i can get the stock fuel rails tapped for 6AN threads or anything? Or is there an economical fuel rail kit i can buy? or, can i use adapter fittings to connect the 6AN lines to the current metal fuel lines?? I just want to make it work and look clean. i've got an extra lt1 fuel rail i can play with, so risks of experimenting aren't really big deal.
Second, where should i connect the braided lines to the stock hard lines again?

Re: Fuel line 6AN options

Alot of people just cut the back end of the fuel rail off and weld an AN fitting on.

yeah you can cut the stock lines off and tap the rails for AN fittings and go from there. Mr Gasket has black fittings and there is now black hose out there as well.

Re: Fuel line 6AN options

thats a neat link you posted. thanks. thats a nice idea... but if you cut the little rounded ends off the stock feed and return fittings on the fuel rail itself (where he stock plastic lines hook to the fuel rail), couldn't you just nib those off and put on a standard 12 dollar hardline to -6 hose connector?? Anyone have a diagram or picture of the fuel rail being tapped for the fittings? i think that looks better, but it might be a total PITA to route the hose back there. I'm going to use some earls's pro 350 like intimd8 has on his twin turbo z. i pretty much want to copy that setup how he has it...just without the custom fuel rail.

Re: Fuel line 6AN options

To get the old hard lines out of the back of the fuel rails, you need to cut the ends of the rails off. At that point, its easy to weld -6AN fittings to the end of the rails. You have to use a fuel pressure regulator that does not attach to the back of the rails when you do this.

I have a -6AN line into the back of each rail, a 1/8" NPT bung on the passenger side rail for a pressure sensor, a -6AN return line welded to the diagonal cross-over tube, and a Weldon AFPR mounted under the cowl. The filter is still in back in the stock location, but its an SX billet filter. Entire system, including dual Bosch 205LPH pumps, is all braided line.

Re: Fuel line 6AN options

so for sake of ease, i guess i should just go with the setup seen on ebay or make my own similar to that. i absolutely hate how the factory fuel line in justrun over the tops of everything...is there any other effective and easy way to route the lines to the back of the manifold? I'm looking but not seeing much

Re: Fuel line 6AN options

where do you think would be the best place to connect the -6 line back to the stock lines? under the car somewhere? also, what is the best fuel filter for me to use, whether its under hood or under car? theres a ton of micron ranges

Re: Fuel line 6AN options

There is a plastic 3-line "harness" that starts at metal lines under the rocker panel, near the front subframe. You would use the hard line-to-AN adapter compression fittings to attach the new braided lines to the existing steel lines under the rocker panel, and probably bring them up under the cowl, like I have mine, then attach the braided lines to the existing hardline using the same fittings. Earls may make them????

I'll see if I can find a photo of the stock fuel lines under the rocker panel.

Re: Fuel line 6AN options

This where the hard lines become plastic lines. If you tie in here, you could run them up under the cowl, rather than through the fender liner. You can see my -6AN line (the stock lines are "abandoned") on the right side of the picture:

This is where the plastic lines go after they pass the subframe, on their way to the inner fender liner.

Re: Fuel line 6AN options

cool, so what do you think about which filter to use??? oh, another thing i noticed... what do i do about the 3rd plastic stock line that runs under the hood and connects to a vaccum line or whatever for the evap purge? i suppose i could run that as a braided line as well and just use a hose clamp and adapter fitting to attach it to the small purge line??

Re: Fuel line 6AN options

I left the EVAP purge line as plastic, at least until I removed the complete EVAP system. No reason you couldn't do that line the same way you do the fuel lines. Maybe use -4AN instead of -6AN.

I have the SX (Essex) billet filter in the stock location, but I use all braided lines, so its easier to connect. Its in this picture, as well as a lot of other plumbing that brings the two fuel pump discharge lines together:

Re: Fuel line 6AN options

yeah, thanks for the pics. i would really like to run the lines through the fender well and have a underhood fuel filter on the inner fender. i will have to buy a 20' section of the hose to do that (180 bucks!) i like that look though. i just have no idea how to run the fuel lines up through the inner fender. i can't even see in that far. lol

Re: Fuel line 6AN options

Just remove the plastic inner fender, or you could tie the braied line to the plastic line when you pull it out.
