Fuel Injector - F1SE-E5A Red Top not firing
Fuel Injector - F1SE-E5A Red Top not firing
Hey guys,
I am running the 30# Ford, Red Top injectors and have one that is not firing. it is getting 12.5 volts to the hot side but does not make the clicking noise when listening to it. I have the ECM tuned with these injectors so I would like to replace or repair it.
1. Can this injector be repaired and if so any suggestions for who to send it to would be great.
2. I am having a hard time finding a replacement. If anyone here happens to have an extra they would like to part with that would be great.
3. Is replacing this one injector asking for problems if I do not replace the set?
4. Are there any suggestions for other injector sets of the same specs?
I await your wisdom..

Re: Fuel Injector - F1SE-E5A Red Top not firing
Are listening for the click, and verifying 12 volts on the pink wire at the injector connector the only checks you have made?
The PCM supplies a ground to pulse the injector. Are you sure the PCM ground is reaching the injector? Did you check with a ‘noid light?
Have you scanned it for codes? There are codes for a faulty injector circuit?
Have you checked the resistance of the injector? Should be in the range 12-15 ohms.
Try swapping the injector to another cylinder? If the misfire follows the injector, the injector is at fault. If the misfire stays on the original cylinder it's a wiring or PCM driver problem.

Hey Injuneer,
I havent used a 'noid light' yet but I did check for codes and there are none.
The resistance shows 14.1 ohms so that should be good.
I will try swapping an injector this afternoon to see how that works..
I really appreciate the quick response..

Okay.. after checking the connector with the Noid light found it is getting ground pulses. I also went ahead and swapped the #2 and #4 injector and #2 still fails.
I am having quite an issue finding a replacement so it looks like I will be getting a new set of injectors. Do you have any recommendations for a replacement set that will perform as well as these Redtops?
Thanks

This is kind of a long shot, but I wonder if Ford Performance would have any recommendations for a replacement injector model. They do have email and a tech number to call. I've been thinking on this myself as I'm not sure what I would do if one of mine fails.

The thing to maybe highlight with them is that you need an injector that is for one intake valve. I think a lot of what they offer now is a split spray pattern for dual intake valves. Last time I checked(year or so ago), they still put out the calibration summaries....which is why I went with them for injectors in the first place. I hope they give you good news.
The other thing to ask them might relate to the early 2000's Lightning truck. I think they had the green top 42# units from the factory. That's what I've read, but have yet to see confirmation if those green tops are on an actual Lightning. I've not seen under the hood of one myself. It would be interesting to see if they have a current part number for that injector. I know it's more flow...but might be an option for replacing the set if they offer a calibration summary.

Consider the Bosch 3 injectors. Fuel Injector Connection has excellent videos comparing different injectors. Also a reliable source.

Re: Fuel Injector - F1SE-E5A Red Top not firing
Great information guys! Looks like the Fuel Injector Connection actually has the Red Top 30# - 280150945 in stock so I ordered one. Will update you on how this works out.
Re: Fuel Injector - F1SE-E5A Red Top not firing
Update: I received the new injector from Injector Connection and installed it yesterday. Engine is running smooth and firing on all cylinders again. This was the #2 injector Left Bank. I just connected Scan9495 and see that the:
B1 LT fueltrim/BLM = 109
B2 LT fueltrim/BLM = 128
B1 LT fueltrim/INT = 126-128
B2 LT fueltrim/INT = 126-128
I attached that scan9495 xls file for viewing. it is in neutral and not a driving test.
I am not sure why the B1 LT fueltrim/BLM is low??
All help is appreciated!

Re: Fuel Injector - F1SE-E5A Red Top not firing
2 minutes of idle is interesting, but not enough info to do any productive analysis. You rev the engine (not recommended) and the fuel control shifts to Cell 18, which is a mathematically derived cell (from 16 other cells) used for open loop driving, and some closed loop situations. The cell shows Bank 1 LTFT = 116, Bank 2 LTFT = 111. You have a problem on both banks.
I've pretty much given up trying to help people by analyzing data logs, because they don't follow the procedures I've outlined in this thread:
https://www.camaroz28.com/forums/com...-guide-886891/
Also note you have not signed in for 9 days, after posting the data log. So appears I wasted my time opening it to see what was in it.
You really ought yo put the resistor in the skip shift solenoid harness connector to get rid of DTC 84.

Re: Fuel Injector - F1SE-E5A Red Top not firing
I will check out and follow the procedures in your link for tuning logs in the future. I had not seen this before. Once I follow the procedures for tuning do I need to start another thread or continue using this one?
You didnt waste your time looking at it for me.. I was waiting for the email reply that alerted me that you had responded and just got that today 05-08-2022.
I actually have had the resistor in the skip shift solenoid harness for a couple of years and it just started throwing the code recently. I will check it out and or replace it this weekend.

Re: Fuel Injector - F1SE-E5A Red Top not firing
I guess everyone just assumes I'll review their data logs. It seldom works out. That's why I stopped doing it. I'll have to think about this one.
Re: Fuel Injector - F1SE-E5A Red Top not firing
I appreciate the guidance and information you share with the users on this site.
Since my original injector issue has been resolved I will be following your tuning log procedure and start a new thread on the Bank 1 and 2 LTFT issue.
Have a great day! You rock bro!
