OKay guys trying to fix a problem..

thats the problem in the link..now I do have a MSD coil ready to go in..and just picked up the fuel filter..now untill recently Ive had a place to get these things done with a lift and such..now I just have a driveway and a good assortment of tools..car ramps and a jack..and little light for underneath...

question is how long and the PROPER way to replace the filter in my car? anything special other than just popping the gas cap off?? to relieve the pressure?? and if so..what to do next..all in all driveway fix time for a filter on a jack or ramps??

second the coil..I never done a coil before..any snags or hangups to this?? or is it just something that looks pretty easy to take apart and put back together?? and how long for driveway time...
can it be done in 2-3 hours for both (sun sets around 6)??

 

Fuel filter will take longer to get under the car than it is to change it! Undo the gas cap, get under the car (under rear drivers side seat), press in the sides and disconnect one end of the filter, and take a 10mm(I think) wrench to the other side. Slide the old filter out and installation is the reverse of removal.

As for the coil, its mounted with the ignition module at the front of the drivers side head. Take off the air intake, remove the two bolts holding the module/coil assembly to the head. Disconnect the wire connectors, and take the assembly off the car. Unsure about OBDI cars like yours, but on mine I had to drill out the coil rivet mounts. My MSD coil came with replacement bolts to secure the new coil. Put it back together and enjoy.

Even if you don't have any experience doing this, an hour or so for both should be plenty of time.

 

Removing the gas cap doesn't totally relieve all pressure in the fuel system. I'd recommend using a fuel pressure test gauge with a bleed-off valve to depressurize the lines to prevent fuel spray when you remove the quick-release lines off the filter.

I also have an MSD coil I've been wanting to put on my car, but I read something about drilling somewhere and I was like..**** that. TTT for the answer. Does ODB 1 have to drill?

PS, Fuel filter is real easy.

 

okay I dont have access to something like that..maybee Autozone free rental?? but what about letting the gas cap off for say the time the coil is replaces then do the filter?? enough time for the system to depressurize??and I will watch for the spray too..ill have a few rags on hand...

now rivits?? and replacements?? eek.. I hope I dont run into this problem...Ill be checking tommorow

If you want to replace the coil, you need to drill out the rivets.

 

Remove the bleed valve cap on the fuel rail and press the valve (it's a schraeder valve like a tire valve) with a screwdriver. Have rags around it because it will squirt. No special tool needed.
The coil has rivets holding it to its bracket. You will have to drill them out to get the stock coil off the bracket. The new coil can then be attached to the bracket with screws.
