Are Fuel/Engine Additives Worth It?

Are various engine, fuel, and fluid additives really worth it? Do additives such as Fuel Injector Cleaner and Fuel System Cleaner actually work well? If so, what are some of the additives that you guys use and how often do you use them? I have heard that additives such as these can actually do more harm than good by leaving harmful deposits on the spark plugs. Is this true?

Thanks for your time

alot of people like using sea foam... but all the carbon leaving the engine can clog up the o2 sensors... so you either pull them, or replace them

There's a good deal of evidence that Techron works pretty well. I have had more than one mechanic tell me that it has helped an otherwise failing car pass emmissions. (Apparently, smoothly functioning injectors are important... imagine that. )

An occasional bottle of DryGas is a good idea as well. I like to do it at least one gas-tankful before an oil change.

For octane I use straight Toluene; which is a pure hydrocarbon, so it's safe for oxygen sensors.

As for oil; I use Amsoil, so I don't use any additives at all; per manufaturer recommendation.

Generally speaking, no.

What Rich said.

FWIW, I run Mobil 93 octane in my LS1, LT1 and other engines, and have never in over 500,000 miles had a problem even with injectors, etc. I'm not sure if I believe Mobil's hype on "Drive it clean" (or some such), but my experience bears it out.

Oh yeah, Mobil 1 in everything also.

The only supplement I ever use is GM's E.O.S. which might go into a rebuild for the first run. We used it in the 60s. The packaging has changed a ot since then.

My $.02

Guaranteed to Pass Emissions - in the fuel tank works

Sea Foam - in the intake works and is SAFE for O2's. Says it right on the bottle
