Front oil seal leak ... 3rd one in 150 miles

Leaking like an infected hoe ...

Anyone ever try replacing the front cover at the same time?? If so did that solve the problem?

Any other suggestions?

Sounds to me like you didn't get the oil seal double lips in the proper position. The worst one is the water pump drive shaft seal. I used the collar as a seating tool as I seated the cover back on. Obviously you will need a new gasket as well. Unfortunately you will have to pull the oil pan down in the front too.

Mines is leaking from the opti seal. I heard that its very difficult to get these babies to not leak once you replace them. I would like to know how the stealership does it.

The water pump is the hardest one, the best way I found to do it is to take a piece of 1/2" conduit, sortof sharpen the end (make it come to more of a point than it is), slide the seal onto the pipe making sure each lip of the seal is facing the correct direction, make sure the one that faces the engine is still pointing that direction, then butt the piece of pipe directly up against the water pump shaft and quickly slide the seal onto it, this will keep that lip from folding over causing a leak.

For the opti, did you replace the shaft too, the shafts tend to wear quite a bit over time, if you replaced the shaft and the seal though and still getting leaks, something is wrong. As for the crank, never seen one leak, they seal pretty well, pain in the butt to replace while on car though, will probably need to remove cover.

Where exactly is it leaking by the way, after I exlpained how to fix each one i decide to ask this question!

Edit: On the opti I was thinking unvented, for vented not sure, not too familiar with those yet, only done two.
