Front oil gallery plugs need oil hole or not?

In the Mike Mavrigian book, How to Rebuild LT-1 Engines, he states the factory used pre-drilled oil gallery plugs to bleed off air in the oil and to oil the timing chain. Are these drilled plugs neccessary for a LT-4 E.D timing chain or can I use standard plugs.
Thanks fellas,
Dean

I don't think the type of timing gear set would make a difference on whether you wanted to keep the oil holes or not. I can't see how they hurt anything. There are some things in that book that I don't go along with (not that this is one of them).

Thanks for the response Shoe.
The reason I mentioned the timing chain I'm running is because of that big water pump drive gear that needs oiling too. The holes might be there to supply this increased oil demand.

like Rob said it shouldn't affect things either way. If you feel that the oil holes will supply the water pump drive gear with the necessary oil, then leave the plugs out

I would leave them out if I were in your situation

If the holes were there from the factory you want them. I don't think you need a special plug or anything. You just need to get some numbered bits and find which one fits the stock hole and drill them to that size.
