front oil drain hole blocked

I was out putting my engine together today and finally bolted the heads on.

4 bolt block, felpro 1074 head gaskets, and TFS heads.

I noticed that the front oil drain hole in the right side head is blocked. Partly due to the head gasket covering the hole. So I peeked under the head and also noticed that the block is actually partially blocking the hole too. Anyone else ever see this problem before? I took some pics and as soon as I figure out how to post them I will.

Yep, standard deal with the LT1 block, the work needs to be done to the block prior to anything else.... not many people catch that detail when they do block work.

so I have to pull the head and grind the block down to open up the hole huh?

that shouldnt be too bad. I'll just pull the head, tape everything up and grind the block down to match the drain hole in the head.

BTW, I am really supprised that I have never heard of this before. After doing some searching it seems as though this is a probelm with all aftermarket heads and even stock heads have a similar problem.

I can see how this could be a major probelm... you could hold a full quart of oil up in the right head under the right conditions. That could be a huge problem with starvation by holding %25 of your oil capacity in a place where it shouldnt be.

I'm glad i saw this. Its not a big deal to fix, I just hope the head gasket is ok and I can still use it again.
