front mount CAI

I'm considering going NA and was wondering if anyone has fabbed up a front mount CAI - similar to what Vettes use - I removed my A/C so have lots of room before the rad. Just need to get over the rad and down into the gap.

Running SS hood but likley no have no more clearance above the rad cover than the stocker,

On the same topic has anyone tried just putting a filter on the MAF - I guess we'd call it a WAI
Wondering just how bad it is

Tks

I'm running !maf with a filter on my Vortech intake. It is the most free flowing of anything I have ever seen. Heatsoak factor is probably not good for 1/4 mile. Pics in sig.

pu12en12g ,
How does the car run with no maf ? I thought our cars didnt do so hot with out it? well except the 93's of course? Is there an added benefit to not having the maf ?

looks very nice - no reason one couldn't run a maf with that as well I suppose.

I know with the blower my intake air temps got fairly high as well so I'm not overly concerned over the cold vs warm air

If you check out Hood Part #S-600 you'll see that there is an option to modify for a ram-air intake. It looks clean and near factory.

Personally, I've got the GM Performance Parts Air Cleaner with dual K&Ns... same as SLP but silver annodized.

If I could do it over, I'd consider the hood and CAI above. I believe he is a sponsor to this website too...

With an Ultra Z hood you may be able to use an LS1 set up.

My car runs better without the MAF. The "limp home mode" is a misinformed myth. It definately pulls harder top-end without it, but you do need to program it for speed density. Again... with this type of setup the heatsoak might be an issue for you 1/4 mile guys, but I don't worry about that because I don't race at the track.

Think about the direction that air has to flow, and the location(right above the engine) of that piece. Once you see that ram air intake up-close you would change your mind. Your current 3" setup is better then that.

I didn't consider heat-soak with that induction system. I'm pleased with my GM Perf.Parts Intake... Oh well, just an option.
