Friends LT1 overheat issue

My buddy just got his lt1 back on the road an entire engine rebuild. but it keeps getting hot. he has no heater core or ac. So it is missing one bleeder screw. he even took out the thermostat and still keeps going to 235+ thinking it was a thermostat problem and it still continues to climb.
He keeps opening the bleeder screw on the water pump air keeps coming out why? He has an meziere elec water pump as well. Even with fans on it still continues to climb. It doesnt appear to have any coolant leaks. I told him to try a new radiator cap and that didnt help. What can be the problem? Test the pressure of the coolant system? I have an lt1 and Ive bled mine with out any problems. Maybe a head gasket issue? Or something plugged?

Testing the coolant system pressure would be a good idea. I was having overheating issues like you mention and the test confirmed my car needed headgaskets..as coolant was getting into the cylinders.

Re: Friends LT1 overheat issue

He hasn't pressure tested it but he said he bled more air out and it's still overheating. He's got the Meziere hd elec pump which flows 45+ gpm and still overheating. I'm starting to lean towards bad head gasket install from his engine builder. The builder has already missed an oil galley plug on the drivers head and now it's overheating. I sure would be mad if I spent the money he has so far and it's still overheating..
